    Hi All,

I'd appreciate input on this. I'm probably going to have to part ways with my 2018 soon. No I don't want to, but financially it seems to be the right thing to do. Emotionally I'm going to move on and just try not to think about it...

But, it has some add-ons - what is worth pulling off to try and resell if anything?
    • Cat converter plates
    • TRD rear sway
    • Tow mirrors
    • Pretty new Lomax Stance bed cover.
For the sake of the discussion, let's assume I'll be talking to a dealer about buying it back. Thanks.

If you are getting rid of it for financial reasons, then I would say the little labor it takes to remove said mods would be worth the extra money you will receive by selling them on your own. There is no way the dealership is going to give you premiums for those items.

I agree. Pull them off and sell them. Once you have 50 posts, they will sell fairly quick on our marketplace.

Okay thanks for the input. I figured a dealer probably wouldn't pay anything for them.

They won't. If I had the tools and space I would have put mine back to stock before trading, because they don't give you much extra for it. Certainly not compared to what they will sell it for, so you are definitely going to come out ahead if you pull and sell them yourself. The only downside is that it may take time to sell the parts.

Wanted list: Color matched exterior handles
The Sway bar might be the only thing the dealer might be interested in, but even then they won't give you much/if anything for it. However, that should be an easy sell and also on the easier side to remove.

Why are you taking a Tundra into a dealer to trade/buy? These are highly sought after trucks that you could sell easily on CL (5.00) or autotrader/cars.com (40.00+). You won't get actual modification value but can get pretty close.

Sometimes it works out in your favor to trade in. These past couple years have been wild. One of my co-workers traded in his 2019 Tacoma TRDOR for 10k more than he paid for it and turned around and purchased a brand new 4Runner.

If we were talking a lift kit or an exhaust I'd skip but everything listed is a quick job to remove. Take them off and sell them slowly on FB or here. You'll be ahead at least $1000 over letting the dealer have them, probably closer to $2500.

Yeah, the last couple years were nuts. If I had known about the dealership that I bought the Taco from a year prior I probably could have gotten more for the Tundra. C'est la vie. The equity I had in it along with paying nearly double payments each month is getting the Taco paid off plenty fast.

Look at the average price of a 2018 DC 4x4 SR5 tundra. Retail they are going for average 35000.00 so trade in value will be a lot less....around 5000.00.

So I can't speak for anyone else, but since I live in the county, tax is 5.13%. For me that's saving ~1540.00 in taxes. However I also took huge hit from retail to trade. Private party can get close to retail if it's a clean truck. Let's say I sold his truck for 34000.00. I gained 2461.00 vs trading in.

I'm sure I could have got more selling, but I only had one vehicle and the Taco was 1200 miles away. Trading was really my only option. OP, are you in a similar boat? If you have a back up vehicle and the ... hrk.... math... hrrrrrrkk.. :puke:.... works out, you may want to sell vs trade.

Pull all of it. I (along with 78% of us) are going to need a few weekends to get back to stock, but everyone here also loves used parts.

How are you going to sell that heavy stuff? I, for example, didn't like a $700 "performance" fartback (erroneously advertised as a catback) on my other vehicle in pre-pandemic years and sold it basically for $50. Shipping ate it all. Valhalla's cat shield, for example, is bulky and weighs a ton and a half or so, you have to have a contract with Fedex/UPS for it to be relatively affordable to ship.

Or you sell local only. People do it all the time.

I've been thinking about this. The parts are big (apart from tow mirrors) ... so probably looking at local sales.

I was going to see what the local dealer would offer me just to start with, he's a friend of the family so I expect he'll at least be fair. I see crew max's from this era sitting on lots going for $43k with 65k miles on them. I'm well under that in miles, so I figured I'd see what they'd say. I appreciate all the thoughts on these parts nonetheless - you all are great.
