I just took delivery of my 2022 Tundra SR5 4x4 Double cab. Online specs stated 1800 lbs. payload but door sticker shows 1500 lbs.I have a Fourwheel Hawk popup camper rated at 1100 lbs. Not too happy about being limited to only packing 400 lbs. of cargo. Should I return the truck to the dealer or trust the online spec of 1800 lbs payload?

Were finding out the payload listed by dealers and online is for a truck you may never find. A unicorn of sorts. Does the camper really have 1,100 pounds of tongue weight?

It's a camper, not a trailer so tongue weight not applicable. Payload is my concern.

The spec is irrelevant...the sticker on the door jam is what counts.

1,500 lbs of payload would be considered pretty damn good to most.

Sorry to say you probably should have researched this more...

    400 lbs = cargo + driver & passenger(s).

1100lbs dry. Add another 20 gallons of freshwater (capacity) and now you're at 1266.

    1500-1266 = 234lbs left.

That doesn't leave you much but it is doable. Assuming your single passenger is small to average in size and very very minimal cargo added.

Sounds like you missed a little bit of homework prior to taking delivery.

This has been discussed extensively in the Payload thread. The stickers on all of the trucks are only going to be one of the 10 or so payload values in the owners manual. So regardless of your trucks specific options, the sticker will always read the same value as what is listed in the manual for your configuration.

People are finding that their SR5 stickers are showing 250-300 lbs less than what a Cat Scale says it should be. So I suggest you go weigh your truck without you in it, but with a full tank of gas, and find out what the true curb weight is and subtract that from the GVWR. My guess is it will be in the 1700-1800 lb range.

And 1800 lbs is the ideal number assuming you have zero options. Any options added at the factory or dealer over a base SR5 will reduce the payload.

It's usually easier to do that AFTER you purchase a $50000 truck.
