    All,

My 22 Tundra, non hybrid TTV6, periodically the throttle will lag, even a couple of seconds. Not predictable, only happens every now and then, and I am used to turbo lag, I don't step on it, and I drive it pretty conservatively.

Is this just a normal function of an occasional turbo lag, that for some reason on occasion the turbo is spun down and for whatever reason at that instant takes a couple of seconds to spin back up, or is it something else? Like I said, it doesn't happen all that often, and it's not easy to recreate, seems to be random.

    Thanks.

There's a chance, if it's lag upon starting that your truck needs the ECU to be flashed. There is a technical service bulletin (TSB)
T-SB-0111-22 out that might fix what you need.

No, it's not on start up. Just sometimes, say at a stop sign, and not often, will lag say a full 1s or 2s, then spins up and goes. I try to recreate it to see exactly what causes it, but it just randomly occurrs, and not frequently.

Doesn't seem to do it in sports mode. But, like I said, I can't really seem to recreate it, happens randomly, and infrequently. I am just curious if this is just the nature of the turbo/engine, or if it is something else.

This happened to my 23 Tundra yesterday a lot. First was when I got off work and coming to a rolling stop on a uphill. Bad habit but I didn’t stop fully since it’s uphill but it lagged for like 1-2 secs before launching me lol. Second time was with my gf the same day in some parking lot stop signs again but flat elevation and she’s like are you mad or something and I’m like no the truck is being moody not me lol. I have had several updates from the dealer but nothing seems to fix it.

Makes me wonder if the TSB did anything at all and maybe it was just the ECU reset that "fixed" it until the relearning "broke" it again?

I'm mainly just wondering if it's a sign of something wrong, or if it's just pretty much standard turbo behavior how these engines are built. I suspect it isn't anything major, but I'm just curious.

My truck does it, I quit for a but after the TSB but it's back again. It's definitely not turbo lag. It definitely makes me creep around town like a grampa as I don't know if I'll be able to smoothly and decisively pull out into traffic or if I'll sit there for a second before launching like a retard.

Felt lol and I agree definitely not turbo lag more like something to do with throttle map but it happens a lot to me in eco.

Yea maybe I should try in sport mode because normally I am just sitting in ECO. It's caused me to be quite a bit more cautious when turning across traffic because I just don't know if the power is going to be there.

Sport mode gets rid of it for me but doesn’t go into the over drive gears like normal and eco but my favorite mode is definitely sport for how smooth it drives but mpg drops considerably and I usually get around 24 mpg driving normally in eco so I pick it but drives very weird.

Can I ask if you are using the auto engine off/on? These trucks are so quiet maybe you are moving your foot to the gas quicker than the enter starts back up and you just aren't noticing.

I believe your are referring to what many are calling throttle lag, yes many of us experience it. Mine will actually accelerate for a second starting from a stop and then it's like the throttle disengages for a second. This has almost got me creamed twice turning across traffic. Thankfully, I wasn't trying to cut it too close or I would have been hit for sure.

I thought I had a hesitation, for the first time today, at a traffic light. Turned out to be I forgot to turn off the auto start/stop. It sure felt like hesitation but it wasn't.

I noticed two kinds of low speed delay.
    1. Slowing down/braking and accelerate again like light turned green before I could stop
    2. From stopped, brake off and let the truck roll by itself and then accelerate like when stopped at a light and the car in front is slow to start going
#1 always feels like a downshift hesitation. I feel like a lot of vehicles are like this though. 1st is so low so I guess it’s hard to get into that gear.

#2 is weird because it’s not turbo lag. Accelerating from 1000 rpm in other gears is no problem. It just seems like 1st gear is the issue, like there’s some kind of torque control to limit the rate of torque but I can’t really guess why.

TRD Air Filters, Front door windows tinted to match the rears. Wheel locks, Talons Garage cat shield, Tyger Automotive soft tonneau cover, WeatherTech floor mats with Tuff Skinz Custom Emblem kit, Toyota OEM Emblem Black Out kit. AVS vent covers on all four doors, Red Tundra letters on front bumper & TRD highlighted in Red on front grille. Tailgate Tundra Letters in Black.
If you have a Non-Hybrid a TSB is out that offers a software fix for lag or hesitation at lower speed like rolling through a toll booth or stop sign.

Yes, and unfortunately multiple people, myself included, have had the lag and hesitation return after about 500 miles post TSB.

I think I'm able to replicate this, specifically on a rolling stop where you slow down to about 1-2mph then try to get going again, its a significant delay between requesting more throttle and the engine outputting the power, to know for sure I'd have to do some dataloging with techstream but I don't have the time to do so. Since my build date is after the Production update its probable that the issue isn't resolved by the TSB.

The specific intersection was also jerky on my 2012 Tacoma, so its a unique one its a 4 way stop in a dip, so you coast downward followed by an immediate incline. My 2017 Tacoma actually handled this one well, but was far more derpy in everything else than either of the other trucks.

The TSB helped but a pedal commander helped mostest.

I have same issue 2023 Tundra 1794. Press the gas peddle from a stop and truck doesn't move , then press some more and it speeds forward. Acceleration is not linear from a stand still. Much less prevalent in Sport mode. TSB indicates a trans program issue. Wonder if its not a throttle relearn.

TSB didn’t really change much for any hesitation. The TSB said “worse when cold” so I assume it was much worse for those that live in wintery climates.

The TSB reprogrammed the TCM only and I bet the throttle control lives in the ECM. So until there’s a software update for ECM, there won’t be a fixed for this nonlinear acceleration from a stop.

So is this something I have to look forward to? My 2023 Platinum has only 200 miles on it and is currently fine.

I have had the TSB done. It helped, but the main thing is staying out of Eco while in town. I think it’s trying to decide what gear to be in. I notice more at a rolling stop than from from a dead stop.

I had tsb done about 1k miles ago.

Tested today when driving from work and couldn't find any lag... So I think it's fine

This happened to me a few times too. Not start stop feature. Stop, roll gas.... oh no is this thing running? Then giddy up and go.
My build is from Feb 2023. Wonder if it has to do with the safety sense....

On a rolling stop or slowed down for entering a roundabout and then need to hit it and nope, there's the lag... Even on my Hybrid.
