0W-20 does it really matter which I use?

There’s no way to know what the previous owner used. It was changed at the dealership.

my local dealership used pennzoil back when I had it changed for free on a different vehicle.

pennzoil is $5 less for 5 quarts compared to Mobil.

I use pennzoil in my old Corolla it comes out clean, I use mobile in my Honda it comes out looking dirty maybe that is from the oil detergent.

    I use Costco/Kirklands 0w-20.

Blackstone labs proved to me it was good stuff.

    10qts = $26.50

If costco was not avail...I would use M1.

I change every 5k, so it really doesn't matter what 0-20 I use.

I use Mobile 1 in the truck. Use pennzoil in my lady's car ~ ford focus. Both seem to do the job just fine. Just preference for me

Doesn't matter, both are quality oils. If Pennzoil is cheaper then use that. Mobil will run $10 off every now and then so check their website.

I was raised to look at Pennzoil like it was sewer water so...... Mobil 1 (even though I use Castrol).

And I was raised to think that Pennzoil was the only oil any sane person would use ;)

I switched to Amsoil when a friend became a dealer, so I used that for a couple more decades to help him.

Now I don't have a friend who is a dealer, and I've switched to Mobil 1 for my car and truck and Rotella T6 for my motorcycles.

FWIW, I've been following oil threads on the Internet since shortly after the Internet started, and I've seen exactly one post where the guy said his oil had caused a problem. And even that one was highly suspect for the oil being the problem.

Do what makes you happy

I used Pennzoil since I got a good deal on it and they had rebates. Now my supply is low and will be switching to Valvoline. It does not matter which brand of oil you use, as long as it is a clean oil.

    I used Costco for 4800 miles + 18 dyno runs to tune a S/C. (i hammered it)

it did not sheer , there were no trace metals or fuel dilution & still had 5.0 TBN.

Why would I want to spend more?

not touting costco....just saying use the oil you want....0-20 is all the same when you change it <7500 miles.

(That ought to fire up the oily's)

    mmm- hawt diggity...and Oil Thread.

Castrol 5/20 full synth in 2 Subaru's currently (*Outback & Forester*)

T6 Rotella in '14 red FJR

When the 2018 - 1794 comes into possession I'll be using 5/20 Castrol

My older wrench states that 0/20 doesn't cover enough on a cold mill.

I believe him to a fault.

So it has been and will still be 5/20 @ 5000 mile oil changes.

    Ya know

it’s rare you hear folks say they use Toyota 0-20

is it because it costs as much as amsoil?

    it’s good stuff

I often find Mobil 1 0W-20 at Wally World for $22.84 for the 5 quart jug. At that price, why not use the synthetic? And usually every spring, Mobil runs a rebate program where you can get back $10 on every 5 quart jug you purchase there, so the savings are even more!

I use Kirklands 0w-20 at 29.99 for 10quarts. Change out every 5k miles. No need to spend extra money on oil I’m gonna dump. I do get in on the Mobil rebate from time to time.

Every spring, Wally world has Mobil 1 o-20 for $22,47 for the 5 quart jug. You will also need another quart to top off. Not abad price in my estimation if yo change yourself as I do. Just my tow cents worth

    LED headlamps/fogs; interior footlamps.
I choose Mobil 1 high mileage cuz of the extra additives for seals and the 'claim' of cleaning out most carbon in one OCI.
Pics are of 5-30 yet the 0-20 says the same. Luck all!

I am kinda stunned that a lot of you put in 5/30 weight

    I am a 5/20 guy.

The 5/30 once heated up is pretty thick to get inside the Journals and openings in the crankcase.

My wrench says 5/20 unless it is blistering outside.

    YMMV....

I wondered about that too. I buy the 5-quart jugs, and I'm considering just using 8 1/3 quarts. Three oil changes will be 25 quarts, so at least every third change I won't have any left over :)

Well, yeah. Until I remembered my RAV4 uses the same oil and takes 4.6 quarts. I guess I'll have some random amount on my shelf for next time until I die. LOL
