I picked one of these up last month and wanted to do a little review on it and why I chose this one.

    Tonneau covers that I considered:

    Retrax Pro XR
    Peragon
    Gator/BAK

Had to be key locked and opened without dropping the tailgate. No cable actuated locking mechanisms. I don't need to stand or put any significant weight on my cover. Only thing is keeping eyes and hands out of the bed of my truck.

First off, I really wanted the Retrax...period. This is just a really nice top of the line roll back cover. Security is probably the best. Only problem was 1) I load a lot of different items in the bed and I need the space. 2) Cost was a factor, but not the deciding one. 3) Weather, specifically freezing issues. Where I live it can snow in the morning, be nice out during the day, and freeze over the evening. I can't have my tonneau freezing closed/open. 90% of the time my truck is inside the garage when not in use. The 10% of the time I'm concerned about is when the truck is in use with snow and freezing rain. For some reason my off-road crew ends up out in the elements more often than not....which is weird since most of us don't even have windshields.:eek2:

This is where Peragon met my wants and needs. Easy to install, easy to remove, security was good, price was decent (they offer military discounts of 200.00..FYI). One downside is when opening the cover, nothing over 12" tall better be up in the front of the box due to how the cover opens.

Yeah, Peragon checks a lot of boxes but they lost my business once I realized you can't open the cover if the bed is packed and my bed is often packed.
Also, seen a few folks on here post about not steller experiences with the company but also some folks have really liked what they got too.
Hope you have good luck with your cover

Very nice. Peragon is on my short list, but I won’t be getting a bed cover for while.

If your bed is filled a lot this is not the cover for you. That’s for sure. I will be putting a board or something in the bed grooves to ensure that nothing gets next to the front 12” of the bed.

Weird you heard bad customer service. I have experienced the opposite so far. When I first purchased this cover, I didn’t know about the military discount. I figured it was worth a try. Used the chat feature on their site and was given a 200.00 credit after the fact. Every YouTube long term review was positive.

I will also update this thread with fuel economy numbers on long trips to see if we notice anything in that department. 19-21 mpg is pretty common for my truck.

Customer service was not an issue at all when I tried the Peragon. They were very responsive and very accommodating. I didn't like the way it opened, which has been discussed here. I also didn't like the long rope that had to be wrapped or accounted for in some way. And while I don't jump up on top of my cover, there are many times when I set things on it and I was concerned about the strength of the cover itself and how easily it might scratch with the smooth finish. I hope yours works out for you.

@ColoradoTJ how are you still liking your cover? I'm looking for one and this is on my radar vs MX4 or Diamondback SE.

Also what version did you get? I see they have Classic, Platinum, Limited HD. Any regrets??

    Thanks.

I still really like it and chose the platinum.

    Things I don’t like:

-The lanyard to pull back the cover.

Awesome. How bad was install? It seems I have to remove my factory cargo track to install it.

I would have two people to install the side covers (I used my 13 year old), but other than that it was pretty easy. Use the angle finder on your phone, follow directions on video, 2-2.5 beers later you will be done.

I’m down to either the Peragon, the Bakflip MX4, or Diamondback SE. watching review videos and forums trying to decide.

    thanks for your insights

Apologies for the thread bump. Just to confirm, does the Peragon cover installation require removal of the bed rails/cleats?

I got my Paragon cover May 2022,( great price, military discount 1150 sh/tax included)I researched for weeks. I have had many types of covers for all of my past trucks. This one is stellar, customer service stellar , when I need all of the bed, cover comes off in seconds no tools ,stows on back seat floor or bed and goes back on in seconds no tools . No cloth or vinly wearing out, supported by alum or plastic slats. That fall apart after 3-4 yr. No fold up with either alum or fiberglass panels glued together that delam in 3 or 4 years. One pc of . 062 thick 6061 alum with dbl return bends on each long edge for strength on stl roller bearing wheels painted to your choice of color(mine is powdered coat blk). Two steel rods that lock. This is the tundra of covers, built to last as long as our trucks. 43 yr in the aero space and trucking industries in metal fabrication. Install was 3.5 hr but I am OCD.Keeps rain and snow out Highly highly recommend this cover.

PS bed tie down rails stay in place. You can use for mounting cover if you want(I recommend), factory cleats are still used as well and tie the pull back cord to back Dr side floor cleat in bed, so it's always right their and out of the way. Love this cover

In the spring I plan on purchasing a Peragon to replace my garbage MX4.

For those of you that own one, can you use 18 gallon rubber containers in the bed? If I understand correctly you can’t keep stuff up against the bed but I thought as long as it about a foot off the back the cover will close?

I have owned the Paragon now for a little over 6 months.

This will be my final review of this cover:

This is a light duty cover. You can put 50 lbs on top (max). Paint finish is very nice and holds up to some abuse.

This cover keeps water out for the most part (as well as any of them).

Install was not as easy as most of them. I would say a 6/7 out of 10.

    Issues:

I would run some sort of bed divider system so anything that goes under the cover that might be over 12” tall will not slide forward. You can always just tie everything down too. In the event something slides all the way to the front, the cover will not open and you get to do the army crawl to the front of the bed and pull out the item. This sucks ass if you actually use the bed of your truck and it’s not spot clean. FYI.

Closing the cover is easy if you have the 10’ lanyard at the back. Now if it isn’t tied down(or to something) it will migrate to the front and you will need to climb up into the bed to retrieve the lanyard. Pretty annoying.

This issue is a big one for my application and will not be a problem for most of you. Most of you know I have gooseneck trailers. Now maybe I should have removed the cover every time I used the GN trailers, but that sounds like a PITA. I let the cover stay folded on the rollers when towing. Not sure how this happened but both rollers on the last panel finally broke off. This is an issue since Paragon has HD replacement ones to replace them with. I feel this is a weak spot for longevity. For the people that keep the cover closed all the time, probably will not be an issue.

I removed this tonneau cover from my truck and purchased a Retrax Pro XR. You can buy these covers for ~1700.00 if you look around. I should have done this the first time…but I wasn’t thinking long term.
