The problem I’m trying to solve is with the motor. I ordered a new motor, but after testing the one inside the mirror it initially seemed to work fine. After taking the mirror apart, I tested it with a 9V battery in both directions. No issues. I then plugged in the main wiring harness coming from the vehicle and the one going from the mirror assembly to the motor assembly. Tested it by pressing the fold in/out button in the truck and it ran fine, but only in one direction when pressing the fold in. 5 minutes later I did it again and it didn’t run at all. Anyone know what the issue might be? I really don’t want to replace the entire mirror as I’d rather just find a way to fix it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Did you verify you are getting the trigger signal to the mirror? IE is the switch working?

When I click the fold in/out button my passenger mirror functions normally, and as stated above the first time I tried it with the drivers side mirror dismantled the motor worked in one direction.

Are they independent switches or does it have a selector switch with a common in out switch, like the mirror adjustment? If it is like the mirror adjustment I would suspect the drivers side select is going bad and would need to be either cleaned or replaced. But that would have to be verified with a multi meter, or take your chances with cleaning or replacement. I would not replace the mirror at this point until the switch is verified working.

The switch is definitely functional, as it is a common in/out switch that operates both mirrors at one time.F46030B4-5F27-4521-ADAC-AC54F0C96E8D.jpg

When it fails you need to try the new motor to see if that is the problem. If you can tear the old motor apart you may find contacts that may be corroded and or another problems.

So I just replaced the motor in the mirror folding mechanism, no luck, I bypassed the circuit board by temporary placing some wire in between the motor and the harness coming from the vehicle, and the motor worked. So I’ve pinpointed the problem to the circuit board. I’ve scoured the internet and have found nothing on how to obtain a replacement. Any ideas on what to do? There is a spot on the circuit board where it looks like the fault is. Thanks.

I have a 2007...when I turn the ignition on, the passenger mirror clicks repeatedly for a minute or so but does nothing. It doesn't matter if the auto-retract or open button is pushed or not. Anyone know specifically what this is? Seems to be a common problem apparently from online complaints, but I couldn't find anyone that could say what the solution is.

Also, in that circuit board above, at top center - the yellow cubical item is a surface mount capacitor connecting two fat/wide traces - I don't see an apparent problem there. Directly above that capacitor is something else but the pic is too low resolution to see it. It almost looks like a tiny thru-hole diode connecting those two traces but I can't tell. The two silver domes are some thru hole component sticking thru and soldered from the other side. From the trace size, looks like something to carry some real current.

On my 2008 I gave up trying to fix them. I ended up purchasing a set of takeoffs from a third gen owner who installed tow mirrors. It was plug and play in 30 minutes.

From my post a few months ago, the issue ended up being with the circuit board. Since replacements aren’t made and they only sell the mirror assembly as a whole I decided to leave it, and luckily some takeoffs from another Limited 2nd gen eventually came up on Facebook for a decent price.

Sorry, I didn't see the dates of the posts. Glad it worked out. I have found another set that I purchased and have available as well - only paid $100.

Still have that circuit board lying around? I have basically the same truck with the same problem. Doesn't really bother me, but I have some background in digital electronics, be happy to take a crack at fixing it for you. One of these days I'll get around to fixing mine.
