Help my power steering rack leaking at the pinion input shaft. I did some off-roading I think I put too much pressure on power steering. Wondering if I can replace just seal without replacing the whole rack. I saw it leaking right on the top where it connects. Any help is appreciated

i mean.. you can buy just the seals.. but to replace it is pretty involved. its just easier to throw a reman in. rack rebuilds are not for the faint of heart from what im told.

Ya - they are like transmissions. By the time you get all the specialty tools needed to rebuild it, you're at the same price as a reman.

Racks are pretty easy in these, plenty of room - well, except for the center mount bolt.

Agreed with replacing the rack. If one seal has failed... more will follow. I looked into rebuilding mine last summer “just for the experience” but after reading the manual, I came to the conclusion that replacing was much wiser and easier.

Might as well do the lines also. You’ll probably damage the B nuts removing them from the rack unit during removal. Corrosion and all that...

I went with a remain off Amazon from a seller with good reviews. I've had no problems with mine. I wouldn't go with the cheapest one available but I don't think a new Toyota unit in necessarily needed either.

I would assume the rack would be the same for a V6 or the V8, maybe different for 4wd vs. 2wd.

I've never had a problem with any remans - even the cheapest ones.

Any of those namebrands are probably getting them from the same source, so you should be fine with that one.
