Just got a notification of a recall for all PowerStop Brake lines.

Has anyone else received this notification or been through the reimbursement process?

Here's the link for the NHTSA report:
    https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2024/RCLRPT-24E053-1870.PDF

    Highlights:
"PowerStop will refund the cost of the purchased PowerStop brake hoses as well as an additional fixed fee to reimburse the vehicle owner for the estimated cost of removal and replacement of these brake hoses...

In order to receive an additional fixed reimbursement of $250.00 for estimated cost of removal of PowerStop brake hoses and installing new brake hoses, the customer must submit a valid receipt from the installer for the repair work or provide visual images of PowerStop brake hoses off the vehicle.."

Well that's good to know. I just ordered mine on 5/28/24 and replaced them. All 3 lines, all braided SS.

Sure enough, the Power Stop hoses are gone off of RA. I'll dig in to find more info.

The recall lists PS's phone # to call. They'll collect your info and advise you to wait to be contacted by your vendor.

When you call, please be patient and kind! She's getting beat up for a problem that's not her fault...

I'll update here as things progress.

I ordered a set from Powerstop last year, couldn't find them in stock anywhere at the time and got put on backorder. After waiting a couple months I contacted the company I ordered through and had them switch the order over to a set from GoodRidge instead. Looks like I dodged a bullet there.

    From PowerStop
    ________________
    "Dear Consumer,

The announcement of the recall of our brake hoses was based upon the products not meeting certain performance requirements required by federal regulation, based upon testing performed by a third-party laboratory. This suggests there is a risk that the brake hoses may leak and fail. To date PowerStop has not received any notifications of failure of its brake hoses that have been installed and operating on automobiles. However, in light of the product testing failure and not meeting federal requirements, we would recommend you have the PowerStop brake hoses removed and replaced as soon as possible.

We are in the process of sending communication to our online retailer and distributor partners with details on the remedy offer for end purchasers of this product. This entails providing refunds to customers that purchased the affected brake hoses as well as reimbursement of certain costs related to the removal of replacement of the brake hoses installed on your vehicle. For this remedy, please be sure to retain documentation for proof of purchase of PowerStop brake hoses and repair work related to removal of PowerStop brake hoses. We are still working through the details of this program so please look out for communication from the retailer where you purchased the product. Thanks for your patience in this matter.

    Regards,
    Powerstop

So they are only reimbursing the labor cost of removal? Cool, my documented hourly labor rate just doubled. Of course, like most aftermarket warranty companies, they will only pay up to a certain (ridiculously low) amount per labor hour.

    @The Black Mamba

They're covering purchase price plus $250 if you prove you bought them within 90 days...

    From the recall notice:
"In order to receive an additional fixed reimbursement of $250.00 for estimated cost of removal of PowerStop brake hoses and installing new brake hoses, the customer must submit a valid receipt from the installer for the repair work or provide visual images of PowerStop brake hoses off the vehicle.

Please note: The request for the $250.00 reimbursement for estimated labor costs related to brake hose replacement must be submitted within ninety (90) days from the time proof of purchase for the PowerStop brake"

have someone "install" them for you and write up a receipt for like $300. You should be able to get $250 for your efforts.

Sub'd. I bought some powerstop lines a while back.

So, it reads more like you need to submit the request for the $250 labor/line replacement within 90 days of requesting reimbursement for the lines themselves - not that you needed to have purchased the lines in the last 90 days. That proof doesn't need to a be a repair order/receipt, but a picture of the hoses OFF of the vehicle appears to be sufficient. At least, that's how I read it...

I was wondering why I couldn't find many options to buy these lines a couple of days ago. Decided she's just going back together with what came off. Ill do pads/shoes/hardware/lines as a separate job soon. @bmf4069 I can send you an invoice for my labor if that helps your return

My wheeler lines are black. I've bought 2 sets over the years. The current set they sell is red and looks like your pic. So I'm guessing they are definitely power stop. Not sure if my older black lines are power stop and if they are are they part of the recall though. Will do some digging and email wheelers.

    Response from wheelers support:

"No, our lines do not come from Power Stop. Our lines are made by Techna-Fit."

    So we're good!
