Hi guys. So I just lifted my 2023 tundra with a westcott lift and 37s. Right away the pre collision sensor says it's blocked everytime I drive. It comes on after a few minutes of driving and then goes away after about 5 minutes. Next time I start up the truck and go for a drive it does it again. And yes its clean. Haha. Was wondering if anyone that has lifted their third gen have had this issue or have had to realign it or something? Or it's just a weird coincidence and started to get bad readings the day I lifted it. And it's just a bad sensor.

Did you do the lift yourself? The cameras and safety nannies on these things are sensitive and need to be calibrated after a lift. Or so I've heard.

It seems like I've read on here somewhere that some of the sensors can sometimes freak out if the factory rake is taken away, like it throws off the calibration angles.

I'm on the Wescott kit and 25's and have not had any issues.

Hahaha. Thanks for the reply guys. Ya 25s eh.. skipped leg day. Haha. Well if your not having issues with the 35s then that's good. I'll check to see if there is a way to calibrate them. I had a shop to put the lift in. They were unsure as well but definitely willing to help me out if we find out what to do.

I made an account so I could reply to this lol. I just lifted and got 37s and now every day same thing plus check engine light popped on but I’m pretty sure it’s related to that crap cause it drives fine and starts and stuff. Did you get it fixed?

Give it a week or so. I had this code thrown after my icon stage 5 lift and 37s. Along with another code related to parking brake. Both cleared itself in a day. When I made an appointment with dealership, they hinted at a steering angle sensor for what ever that means. I canceled appointment. Had to make another one for my 2nd volume knob. This truck :crazy::crazy:.

I have a 6” lift and 37’s. Mine comes on randomly, no rhyme or reason. And no, mine didn’t just go away in a week. I’ve had truck for a couple months. The only issue, other than bothersome light, is that the radar cruise control won’t work while light is on.

I recall reading somewhere here on the forum that what the dealership does for "calibration" is just simply put a couple of washers on the top two bolts so that the sensor changes it's angle correctly :notsure:

This was of course what I read for the 2.5gen since that's what I have. Not sure how your 3rd gen sensors are mounted but worth giving it a shot rather then letting the dealer charge you a hefty fee for 2 washers.

Honestly, the sensors have been an issue since the pre collision was introduced in 2018. Any time you alter the stock height or stance of the truck you’re prone to getting malfunctions. It’s a calibrated system set for a stock truck. Some trucks have issues. Some don’t. Toyota has got better with the system and allowing for more wiggle room. But malfunctions can still occur.

Mines lifted with the Wescott 3/1 kit on 37s and mine also randomly comes on then goes away. Doesn't happen all the time. Its a new 24 with less than 4000k miles but i want to say it came on once before the lift so i cant pin point it exactly. Dealer was very helpful with trying to figure it out but since it randomly comes up its hard to replicate etc etc. BUT i've also read that this has been an issue even on the 2nd gen trucks so its nothing new

Mine also does this after lift and 37s. No issue when I was on 35s, same lift 2.5ish in front and airlift bags in back (.5-.75 in). I added the airlift airbag cradles which gave it another ~.5 in back and the occurrence is much less, so I think there is something to the rake angle. I'm going to see if I can effectively tilt my sensor down with washers as I've seen that work on Tacoma.
Interesting aspect is I see the error primarily when driving through shadows.

I added a washer per side between the nut insert and the sensor. Tilted the sensor downward. Drove yesterday in the AM down a street with lots of tree shadows. Still got the error once, but it definitely improved the situation, same area same time of day would have given multiple errors before. I'm going to go back in and add a second washer on both sides. Thinking this will work. 20241102_143142.jpg 20241102_143150.jpg

Wouldn’t the washer need to go between the sensor and grill?

FYI, this problem isn't limited to lifted trucks. My non-lifted 2023 has had the front camera malfunction for over a month, now.

Similar to descriptions above, the error message comes and goes about every 10-15 minutes of driving time. When the error message displays the radar cruise and collision detection features are disabled.

I'm waiting on a new side seat panel, which is on national backorder. When it arrives, I will have the front camera problem looked at when they install the seat panel, and I'll report back with any information

Yes, between the grill nut insert and the sensor as I said above. Picture showing the size of the washer on the bolt, not the installed location. Sorry for any confusion

Added another washer (2 on each side now) and no error on hour drive today. Fingers crossed this is a solution.

    Hi Samuryan,

    Congrats on your success.

Sorry for my confusion, but can you post a quick description of how to access the front sensor? I'm not visualizing it from your pics.

    Thanks

You gotta take the whole grill off as the sensor sits behind the grill shutters. Once you've done it you can get it done pretty quick.

Thanks, that's what I was afraid of.

I'm a decent shade-tree mechanic, but it would just be an exploratory mission to look for a loose connection, or some other obvious problem. My truck isn't lifted, so my front camera malfunction shouldn't be related to the angle of the sensor.

I'll let the dealership figure out what the problem is.

After 2 morning drives through forest area (strobing sun/shade areas) I am error free. 4 washers sure beats dealer recalibration $$$. Hope it works for everyone else that's lifted

If the two holddown bolts are on either side horizontal on the sensor, then how does adding a washer pointed down? It just seems like it would push it back in the grill but not point it down any? What am I missing?

Top center bolt is pulled in closer to grill than the 2 middle ones.
Had to do the same thing when swapping to Heritage grill on my 2019 Tacoma
