Every now and then I notice the pre collision flashes that it's unavailable. It is cold and snowy/icy here, but anyone else having this issue. It turns back on its own at some point.
Also I get a crack noise in my dash sounds like it's coming from the middle where the temp controls are, anyone else?
    TIA

I've heard the cracking noise a couple of times, but I haven't been able to narrow down a cause. The only pre-collision warning I have is my wife's panicky voice coming from the passenger side of the truck.

The cracking noise sounds when I push in on the fan speed knob, it's the exact same sound as when I'm driving and I hear it.

If your truck is as salty as mine (I'm about 30 min from you), it's likely road salt and grime on the camera/sensor in the Toyota emblem in the grill.

    None. Keeping this one stock.
Mine started with 200 miles on it. Have a regional tech coming down tomorrow. I'm in South Texas and truck stays clean. Hasn' happened in cou ole of weeks. But was everyday for 2 weeks. Now my brake controller gain works intermittently. And when pcs light is on radar cruise does t work either. Usually has a message about cleaning the sensor. But it' s clean as it' gonna get.

Read your owner manual. Mine did the same thing--the emblem on the grille hides the radar behind it and it gets covered with ice, snow, frost, etc. Use window cleaner and while it clean... Problem solved.

Mine gave me the warning in the rain last Friday. It eventually went away. It's only happened once but I've also only had the truck for two weeks tomorrow.

Correction. It happened again this morning on my 18 mile drive into work. Very light rain. It cleared once I got to work and shut down/restarted.

Ok. So regional tech cou isn't find a fault. However. Is blaming the radar sensor up front. Getting new one. But. They are on back order. And. My 2018 had a recall. Some software upgrade.

Happened to my truck this past weekend. I stopped and wiped the grill emblem clean....problem solved, it also mentions it in the owner's manual so there is no reason for concern.

    I got the same recall notification on the Toyota Owners site but haven't received the letter yet. Below are the details; basically an update so "big brother" can see what you did if you were involved in an accident;

    Copy/Paste from Toyota site:

    Description:

The subject vehicles are voluntarily equipped with an event data recorder (EDR). The EDR only collects, stores, and allows retrieval of vehicle event data, including crash events. It does not control the operation of the vehicle or crash safety systems. Due to a software error in the air bag ECU where EDR data is stored, the EDR data for "Frontal Airbag Deployment, Time to 1st Stage Deployment," and "Frontal Airbag Deployment Time to 2nd Stage Deployment," will show the same value at the time an event is recorded. This software error has no effect on the actual air bag's deployment times for both stages. Both air bags operate as designed.

    Remedy:

Toyota will send an owner notification by first class mail starting in early January 2018, advising owners to make an appointment with their authorized Toyota dealer to have the center air bag sensor assembly software update performed at NO CHARGE.

Regional tech is replacing front radar sensor. But could not reproduce the issue in my case.

I have a 2018 tundra 1794 edition. Had it since oct 2017 and the collision light comes in the dash that it is off almost every SUNNY day saying it is off. Have had the truck to the dealership 6 times. Nothing shows on the scan. Called Toyota directly and they said no record on other truck with this problem. Today going to dealer 7 th time and Toyota Corp. Is replacing the front sensor. We will see.

Call Toyota , they need to know.

Mine has been unavailable twice in the month I've had my tundra. Once after getting blasted by a snow plow and once on a dewy morning. Both times it came back on next time I started the truck without wiping anything down.

Kind of annoying that the radar cruise control won't work if the toyota emblem is dirty, or has a little dew on it.

My collision control will cut off and on every day. Especially when sunny, no clouds, and no traffic in front or behind me. Toyota but a new sensor emblem on last week, and no problem so far.

I don't have a cracking noise, but when it gets icy, or a first rain where lots of dirt and oil kick up, I have an issue with the system. I am fairly certain it is from the senor getting dirty. It will work properly again every time I clean off the toyota emblem on the front of the truck.

It's snowing today. The pre collision/radar cruise turned off. I know you're not supposed to use cruise when it's slippery, but if you can't use cruise control when the front of your truck is dirty, that's not cool.

I called the dealership to ask if this is normal operation...they said it is, but if you turn off the safety nannies you still have normal cruise control. Haven't verified this, but hopefully that works.

@Tundrado you should definitely have the standard cruise control when the radar cruise is not not available

You must have to turn off the tss, last time it turned off from dirty sensors, the cruise said unavailable when I tried to set it.

Can anything in Techstream turn off the TSS to make it like a pre-18 model without it? I haven't looked to see if the manual shows anything in the settings menu to do it with the steering wheel controls and make it permanent(until you want to switch it back on).

@Tundrado Just hold the cruise control button down for a couple seconds to use regular (non radar) cruise. No need to shut any nannies off.

Mine goes on and off now starting at 800 miles. My sensors are clean, or am I missing something.

I did level the truck 2.5 inches but I was riding on that for 200 miles or so with no issues.

Last week mine was working normal but threw an erronous stop message when i was about to go under a bridge with a slight turn. Dont know if the dark shadows tricked it or the bridge wall as i was entering the turn but there was nothing in front of me, i was using cruise at the time and set to the "near follwing distnace" at 70mph.

The recall was done to my truck before purchasing it by the dealer, our highlander doesnt flake out like this one does, perhaps its the additional height that the radar gained. Sometimes i wonder if shimming the bottom ever so slightly would pan the radar to a more approriate path.

Mine started doing it today. I took pictures to show the tech, but it happened in front of the advisor when I stopped in. I have to drop it off Tuesday morning so hopefully they find out what’s causing it. When it’s gong off and on I noticed my sensor doesn’t work at all even with the light off.

Hey guys, more than likely whats causing the problems you are having is the radar sensor behind the emblem. They put a vent in them for some reason and its on the top of the sensor. So it gets moisture in it and causes these intermittent problems. They are actually working on an updated sensor now but it hasn't been released yet. It may even end up being a recall. So if you are still having the problem you may ask the dealership you are using to contact one of there field techs if they cant find anything and verify.

My '18 started doing it a month ago..right around 1K miles on it when it started. It would happen twice a week, even when the weather was nice. O haven't even gone through the manual yet but the guy told me the sensor was on the dash?? Said not to put anything in front of it, I had no clue it was in the emblem on the grill. Today it's been going on and off all day. I have 2600 miles on it. The orange light comes on and then it flashes Pre Collision is unavailable on the dash message center. I was hoping it to wait until my 5K oil change came up but I'm guessing that's not going to happen.

It's the busiest time of year and the repair part of the dealership is closed on the days I'm off. My work is right around the corner from the dealership
but because I work late they won't come pick me back up. Last time I had to have something repaired on my '08 they forgot to call when it was finished to set up a pick up time so then I had to wait for someone to come get me and then they were closed. I had to take a $45 Uber to go get it the next morning
