Just for fun, I was looking at mods and stuff that are currently available for the new Tundra. I decided to check out the roof racks first because I know Prinsu already made one for the 3rd gen.

After some evaluation, (1) this new product looks a lot smaller or narrower than it should be, (2) it can only accommodate a 40" lightbar vs. a 50" for the 2.5 gen. Not limited by the fairing cutout, I believe it's still physically too narrow to fit a 50"
    Verdict: disappointed

    It's a lot of wasted real estate . . .

Now, I do believe, as far as I know, that the 3rd gen's cab is wider than the outgoing 2.5 gen...

Maybe they took the design and dimensions from 2.5 gen and tweaked it a little
    But why can't it accommodate a 50"??

My guess is it has to do with the mounting of the roof rack and they couldn't design it wider.

No way would I drill holes in the roof to install that.

Yeah what's with all this shady af hole drilling that has to happen? I think I've seen this several times now... Is it possible to have a roof rack properly secure without drilling?

I don’t know about for the ‘22, but Spider makes a no drill roof rack. It’s a solid unit.

I know 100% that they could make it wider. UpTop Overland's rack is wider, but I don't really like their rack design

Yeah, you have to use rivets . . .

Not the traditional pop rivets but rather rivet nuts.
    • Drill hole
    • Insert and secure rivet nut in hole
    • Screw bolt into rivet nut

I drilled into my 2010 and 2018 to install track bars using rivets. I didn’t have any issues other than breaking several rivet guns. Pulled down the liner and I didn’t hit any airbags. Neither ever leaked.

I wouldn’t use rivet nuts though with anything that could fly off my truck. Those also cause stress fractures. Id expect them to leak after awhile.

The inside width of the rack is 50 7/8", so you technically can fit a 50" light bar in there. I'm not sure why they chose to go with narrower cutouts though.
