So…I’m about to go get my front windows tinted for summer. I’m not worried about matching to the front to the back, the shop knows the percentages. But they offered to put a clear coat on my windshield that blocks 99% of UV rays and 40% heat. I was about to look up the 3M technology, so I believe them.
What I’m trying to figure out is if the privacy glass on my back window and sunroof also blocks UV rays. The dealership said it did, but also told me they couldn’t show me anything about it, i.e. no proof or stats.
Anyone here have any details about Toyota Tundra’s glass?

TRD Air Filters, Front door windows tinted to match the rears. Wheel locks, Talons Garage cat shield, Tyger Automotive soft tonneau cover, WeatherTech floor mats with Tuff Skinz Custom Emblem kit, Toyota OEM Emblem Black Out kit. AVS vent covers on all four doors, Red Tundra letters on front bumper & TRD highlighted in Red on front grille. Tailgate Tundra Letters in Black.
Factory Privacy Glass does not protect you from UV rays. Factory Privacy Glass is there to prevent you from seeing in the vehicle. It does block sunlight from getting in the vehicle but does not offer UV protection.

i’m almost positive the factory tinted glass does nothing for UV and heat… You need Ceramic film for that…

    Thanks friends!

so annoying the dealership would bother to lie about it, after I’ve purchased my truck. But when the guy said it blocked “100%” of UV rays, that’s when I knew he was full of shit.

This^^ ....factory tint is pretty much just colored glass. To each their own, but I shake my head at those I see putting ceramic on the front to match the rears and not doing anything else.

From my experience dealerships don’t know shit and just try to pull data out of their ass lol when I inquired about the Supra back in mid 2019 one told me the car was ready for 1000 hp from the factory, therefore the 35k mark up over msrp lol

I recently went and had ceramic film installed on my mother in laws 2013 Nissan Murano. Front and back windows ran about $240 at the local tint shop. It’s definitely more pricey than regular tint.
I don’t think the % matters when it comes to UV protection.

Factory tinted glass does offer a small amount of UV filtering and obviously some shading but nothing like what quality film offers.
Comparing ceramic film to older carbon based films is like comparing a coffee filter to cheesecloth.
The tighter the grid the less heat is going to pass thru
Honestly if you regularly have passengers tinting the whole vehicle is a must…also a bit of protection in case of a accident and glass breakage

What I did with mine, and I can't suggest enough, is 20% ceramic on the front doors, and 70% ceramic on the windshield, back doors, and back window. It really does make a difference driving on a hot sunny day. It also looks great.

That does look great!! That’s darker than I want, but it looks really good. I think I’m going to go 34% on the front windows and 80% on the windshield.

I’ll give it some time and see how I feel about the ceramic before I added it to the factory tinted glass. But the heat reduction will be nice in the summer.

    thanks everyone

This is what I'm doing - 70% ceramic on windshield, back doors and rear window, and matching the front with 20% - Pick it up tomorrow night. (also putting PPF and ceramic coating on it)

I wish we could go that dark here, but you'd get pulled over every 5 miles.

I do have tint on my fronts but its only like 50% or something

That’s exactly what I want mine to look like!!!

What brand tint did you use? Did it have a green/blue tint to it or is it black/smoke?

Just got mine done last week for side glass and went back this week for the windshield. The problem with ceramic these days is it no longer all created equal.... I had 3 tiers of options when I picked it out and the shop only used Rayno ceramic:

    S5 = 50% heat reduction, S7 = 75%, S9 was somewhere around 92% I believe (more details on their site: Rayno Phantom S9, S7, S5 Series Window Tint | Rayno Window Film (raynofilm.com))

I went with S9 on all the side glass, 20% fronts with 50% over the factory rear was close match. I went back and got the lowest level offering for the windshield in case it gets damaged I'm out less money. Went with 50%, was super concerned about nighttime visibility but I did a test drive last night on dark backroads and in town under streetlights with oncoming cars etc. and had zero issues. I won't even realize the tint is on there after a week, I'm sure. For contrast, I have a model 3 with ceramic and 70% on that windshield you can tell there is a slight color difference in the glass but otherwise not noticeable at that level.

The Tundra is much more noticeable from the exterior with the 50%, but not much of an impact from the driver seat. And, IMO, it looks fucking awesome.
