Had a weird problem today when trying to put gas in. I couldn't put more than .2 gallons in without it bubbling up and shutting off. Makes it pretty hard to fill it up to 32 gallons. I looked into the fuel filler neck and didn't see anything. I thought with my luck my kid stuck a toy down there. Took me 20 minutes to get 5 gallons. I tried different pumps and a different station. Problem persisted.

I'm going in soon for the recall so they have to drop the tank anyway, but I thought it was worth asking if anyone else had a problem like this.

Sounds like the good ole rollover valve blocking you.

Do you typically top off the tank when you fill up? Or do you let it click off and just let it be? Topping off seems to cause issues with the rollover valve and evap canisters on the previous model, so I'd venture a guess that is what's happening here. Some have had luck with a long screwdriver popping the valve loose, so you could give that a try if the dealership isn't offering to fix it.

The one that did me in was a shitty gas pump. It just kept going and overflowed rather than auto stopping.

I just let it click and go on with my day. My experience from my motorcycle days is that trying to get every last drop in the tank either causes a mess or causes problems.

I didn’t spend the money to just swap out stuff.
There is a possibility of corrosion in the electronic harness of the fuel door/system in the hybrid.

For me, it impacted the locking fuel door, which was made worse by a tech while we waited on parts - he unplugged my fuel up button (along with locking door) which also controls the pressurization or something so I couldn't fill up much gas at all (1-2 gal max) while on an empty tank.

Had that happen on last gen Tundra and this 505CRF fixed it ... not sure if was rollover or char canister that caused it but I don't overfill. It was bought used though with 65k miles so previous owner may have.

Give it a try as cheap fix ... atschemicals-store (ats505.com)

Last summer, I filled up and had the bright idea to see if I could actually fill it 100% full to where I could "see" the fuel level. The next time three times I attempted to put gas, It would only take about 1 gallon then the pump would stop. Very aggravating. Ever since then, when the pump stops, I squeeze the handle once more and that's it.

You all were right. Lemon law became virtually impossible because the vehicle was under recall and I bought it in another state. Florida didn't want to help me and neither did Texas. Thought about selling it and honestly didn't want to take the depreciation hit. Stuck with it.

I had a problem with the gas door motor that opens the door. It also vents the tank so you can add fuel at a regular rate, if it doesn't tell the vent to open .... you have to trickle it in. Its the vent not opening would be my bet. The electric door release triggers the vent to open ( the gas door not opening was a loose connection water got into )

My wife is an attorney. She doesn't specialize in that kind of law obviously, but eventually we just got busy with other things and moved on. I'm still frustrated by aspects of the truck. Getting 14 mpg in a hybrid will continue to aggravate me. That's of course when it allows me to fill the tank. When I brought the truck in today I gave them 4 other items to work on in addition to this. I'm glad for now I bought the 10y/125k warranty. I guess we'll see.

Wanting to see if anything ever came of this. Just went to fill up and the exact same thing happened where it only let me put it in at a trickle or else it would overflow.

I would try a different gas station.

I've had this happen to me on both my '21 4Runner and my '19 Tundra.

All 4 times it turned out to be some sort of issue with the gas station pump or facility.

I actually had two-in-a row in my '19 Tundra. Both gas stations had some sort of pumping issue with their tanks. Two stations within a block of each other.

I'm having that problem right now. I got to the gas station and the gas door didn't want to open, I hit the button. Finally I got to the dealer there they tried what they did was disconnect the button system and now I have the problem that I can't put gas in it. It took me about 45 minutes to make just 20 dollars.

I recently took off my fuel tank and took a picture. What you’re looking at is the siphon guard which is that golden color thing with 3 prongs and a circle. In the background is the aluminum looking thing that is the rollover valve. All you gotta do is get under the truck, follow the filler neck to the top of the fuel tank, loosen the hose clamp, pop the hose off, and stick something skinny and long to get past the guard and flip the valve over. You’ll know you’re successful when your thing has touched gasoline.

Right below the fuel door behind the fender is an emergency pull cable. You'll have to stick your head under the truck to see it, just give the cable a tug and the door will open, surprised the dealer let you drive away without telling you this.

Well today I went to another gas station to try again before going to fight at the dealer because of the problem. What I did do, which I didn't do before was that I hit the gas button before and there I opened the lid as normal. Thank God I was able to fill my tank without any problems. So I didn't go to the dealer to battle. I'll wait for the appointment I have to fix that button. Thank you to those who gave me advice on how to deal with this situation.:hattip:

Are you saying this will work? To fix it? Having this issue right now...

Pictures? I'm just seeing this red thing, no lever as shown via link...

I had this same issue. Couldn't fill more than a second or 2 before the fuel nozzle would shut off. The fix, whether temporary or not, was sticking a 3 foot zip tie down the fuel filler hose. You can hear the zip tie hitting the flap. No more issues so far. Easy fix. Spent $13 on a pack of zip ties I may never use

Did you leave it in there or did you hit it once and pull it out and it was fixed?

Bc I've been sticking a $10 plumbing snake down the damn thing to press down rollover for last 4 months when filling up.....

I had a similar fueling issue with my 2022 Gladiator a month ago. I used a zero gauge amplifier wire and snake it down the filler tube until I felt the rollover flapper.

I felt the flapper was sticking and had to use some force to punch through. Went in an out about ten+ times to get it to loosen up.

Easy filling fuel afterward. No more clicking every few seconds.

How did this happen to me in the first place you may ask?

We'll... Never had a problem until the one time I filled it up all the way to the filler neck. The fuel was completely full and no longer went down.

On the next empty tank I go to fuel up and it keep clicking off every few seconds. Dammit, I should have known NOT to top off.

The zero gauge amplify wire is very flexible and strong enough to punch through.

I only had to do it once. This was on a 2016. It was good to go the next time I filled up and haven't had an issue since. I'm not sure how it happened to be honest. I'm not one to fill the tank and keep trying to fill after it clicks so pretty sure that wasnt the issue. I ran a endoscope down my fuel filler and it seemed to be the flap was closed. I didn't run it down afterwards, which I probably should have done, but since the issue is resolved, I haven't messed with it since.
