I have a 2018 Toyota Tundra Platinum. Since I bought the thing I’ve had problems with my auto on headlights. Sometimes they will work fine but most of the time I have to manually turn the headlights on because the auto function is not working properly. Darkness status does not make a difference. Is there some kind of switch (besides the one on the turn signal arm) I am missing? I had the grill sensor replaced already for the speed control so it’s not involved with that.

I would have the dealer look at it if it is under warranty.

    Mine function on the fly

I go under a bridge moving slow and they turn on. Then off once I am clear

I have had the dealer look it over and they found no problems. Always worked fine when I left the dealership.

The light sensor for your auto headlights is the little round bump in the middle of the dash near the windshield.

You aren’t putting a hat or anything else up there by any chance, are you?

Try changing sensitivity. Mine were set to all the way up.

The sensor is obstruction free. How do I change the sensitivity?

I found where are you can adjust the sensitivity of the headlights so I guess I’ll just have to do a trial and error since I don’t know if I need to increase the sensitivity that would make the lights come on when it less dark or if I need less sensitivity.

The higher setting will make them come on is brighter conditions. I have mine set on the most sensitive. I'd rather have them come on too early that too late, it seems to help them come on during heavy rain as well

Is the sensitivity adjustment doesn't fix the issue then I would ask for a new headlight/blinker switch stalk. There is a uncommon but known issue with some of these, usually causing the headlights to flicker off briefly while using the left turn signal. But a faulty or finicky switch stalk could cause your issue.

Edit: being a 2018 you have some newer tech that I do not. Hopefully its not an electrical issue of some sort outside a family stalk, do your auto high beams work okay?

Auto highbeams seem to work fine although I don’t really use that much. I just went out and tested the headlights on the truck and still no joy no matter what sensitivity setting I’m at. It’s plenty dark here that it should set it off but no. I am beginning to get pissed off that a $60,000 truck does not work properly.

Jarheadone, Did you solve the auyomatic headlight issue? I have a 2018 Sequoia Platinum as well and just started having the automatic headlights not coming on issue! Followed steps and cannot even get sensor settings to come up to try more sensitive option. Interested to hear if you got resolution. (BTW just hitting 40k miles so Interested to hear how this is happening right after my warranty is expiring... )

This just started happing to my 2015 platinum. I just left my local garage and they were scanned it no code popped up. I’m going to drop it off Thursday and see what happens. He heard a relay clicking when you switch it to Auto on the stock but nothing happens. When you put it to on the headlights fo come on. If anyone has a solution please give a holler. I’m thinking it’s the relay are the sensor on the dash.

My local mechanic fixed it. Sorry I must have mentioned it on another thread. It was a broken wire on the steering column. He had to chase it down I believe from the turn signal lever and eventually found it. Let me know how you make out.
