I’ve got an aftermarket key that I’m planning to program in my truck once I get back home. I’m just wondering if I need to take the truck into a shop or is the “pedal dance” that I see with online google searches accurate and will do the programming?

I've only done it with TechStream. I tried the dance once and it didn't work for me but that doesn't mean it doesn't work if done right. With TechStream you can do more than just the FOB. You can do a new key and tire pressure sensors (to name a few) as well.

I have an autel scanner at home and a snap on at work. The autel did the fob no problem but wouldn't program the key. Planning to try the snap on soon. I was informed by a local tech that toyota keys dont like being programmed without techstream.
