I have a second remote from my 2022 Tundra. When I picked up my 2024 they only gave me one remote saying it would take some time to get a second remote.

Is it easy for the dealership to just program my old remote to work on my new truck?

A used fob can be wiped by a locksmith on ebay for about $10, you do not have to wipe any system on the truck. I have done it a number of times. DIY programming has become more difficult as it requires a rolling security code for certain professionals that qualify and subscribe to TIS. I have a subscribing locksmith that helped me to program an extra key remotely (I used Techstream and he sent me the unlock code via messenger). To program a key takes about 10 minutes from A-Z. My dealer was going to charge me $100.

My 2022 Tundra key fob looks exactly like the 2024 key fob. I called Toyota brand engagement and the girl claimed the 2022 Tundra Key fob could not be programmed to the 2024 Tundra?
Does this sound correct? I would think the 2022 key fob could be wiped and reprogramed to the 2024 Tundra.

I called several dealerships. Two said they would not program my 2022 remote to work with my 2024 Tundra. One said they would program it for $170. I would like to have a second remote now and then make it my third remote when Toyota sends me my second remote in a few months.

Since my truck was built Jan 2024, Toyota will be sending me a second remote hopefully March 2024. (This will be no extra charge)

anyone know of a reliable way but cheaper way to get my old remote reprogrammed?

Find a locksmith with TIS security access.

The FCC ID is the same but there are different part numbers which makes some dealers default to "it won't work." When I ordered a 2nd fob the dealer called and told me it would not work on my 23. I told them to ship it and as suspected, it programmed just fine.

I'd like to try and program a Lexus credit card key, but with the security code needed, I decided not to try and experiment (I'm guessing the LX600 cc key would work).

Just FYI, Toyota won't be sending you your 2nd FOB, you have to go to a dealer to get it.
