Has anyone been able to program a new 2023 Tundra smart FOB themselves? I have a new ThinktoolPros scan tool. It is requesting a passcode to program my FOB to the truck. Toyota won’t give me my trucks code to work on my own truck.

The tundra cost almost as much as my first house. I met my commitments at closing. They never disclosed that it came with only one key fob. Now the seller (Toyota)won’t allow me to install my own lock on my own property, without handing them an envelope with cash each time.
I did some more research. I read Toyota’s Technical Service Information Bulletin describing the process to their techs. My understanding of the process is, I would need Tech Stream to extract my tundras Seed Code. With that, Tech Stream would calculate my six digit Pass-code. The six digit code is unique to my vehicle. I don’t accept Toyotas’ assertion that its a security breach to give the documented owner his front door lock Pass-Code! With the Pass-Code I can use my own scan tool to add the new fob. After-all I was provided the physical key code.

that key code on the aluminum chad is for the machine to cut the physical key, not for the key fobs. if you dont like the way toyota does it, you sell the truck and go get another manufacturer vehicle.

everyone has their walled garden and its not just vehicles. either you live with it or move on. you think toyota is bad, try apple iphone walled garden. make toyota look like childs plays.

I know the key chad is for making a physical key, that was my point. That it was provided.
I just believe in the right to fix. Two states have already passed right to fix legislation. And John Deer just lost in court for denying farmers the right to fix their tractors. FYI I have fixed my iPhones and installed software from 3rd party sources in the past. Also congress is currently working on opening Apples walled garden. I just believe that if I paid for it I should own all of it. I'm sorry if I angered you.

no problem, but right to fix is not the same as changing security feature (cause i dont see anything to fix on the fob since its not really broken, just a security roadblock for the common user), ask hyundai how that is working out for them right now. the security feature that toyota implemented is to make sure fobs are not cloned so easily. i mean its not that hard for me to go out and get a copy of techstream and do it myself to add a new fob to my 14 4runner or if i had the new techstream for the 3rd gen tundra to add a new fob.

trying googling techstream download (just watch out for malware)

Let me know how you do it, I've been running TechStream for a while on my old/decommissioned laptop with the proper cable, works great, but this whole keyfob is very intriguing.

It’s more for theft prevention with the benefit of customers relying on the dealer. In order to receive the code, the technician has to enter their credentials in tis, repair order number and customer name. This is so Toyota can track who is making keys. There were reports of extra keys being made while vehicles were in for service and then being sold/ vehicles stolen with no records. All someone would have to do is have a few extra keys on hand. Toyota is locking down a lot of parts with security keys and calibrations/ programming with passcodes.

also you have to remember toyota reguires key fob techs to have certain credentials to even touch them. so its not just a matter of "right to repair" is a worldwide consortium requirement.

Got techstream 17.30.XXX working on win7 64bit laptop. Connected to 2023 truck with Mini-VCI J2534. I got the 96 bit seed code. I used online pass-code calculator to retrieved six digit pass-code. Techstream didn't like code. I was unable to add second smart fob to my truck :(.

FYI. In Techstream and on my Scantool, when you try to add a smart key it displays VIN ###, Data1###, Data2###, Data3### in Seed Number box. You are supposed to click [Get Pass-Code] in Techstream to get the six digit code. I did find someone online that can provide the Pass-Code from that info. Don't think it's worth the $50 price tag.

when you got the truck they should have given you a fob + mechanical key and a spare mechanical key minus the forth coming fob.

i have my spare mechanical key sitting on our spare key holder by the kitchen. it has my spare fob for the 4runner and my sons hyundai.

Was able to use an older version of tech stream to program a Lexus keycard on my 2017 Tacoma. Easy peasy. Just tried v18 on 24 tundra to program a second key, and unfortunately was prompted for an authentication code. -1 Toyota.
