So got home at 430pm from work today shut truck off, locked it went inside. Just went out to take out trash at 9pm. And truck was making a crazy loud buzzing noise like fuel pump was running or something WTH is that… lol It won’t let me upload a video.

It’s the ‘rattle robots’ going in to make all of your doors, window seals, and interior panels make more noise. They are always at work! Beware!

Heard mine do this the other day for the first time. I admit I started to freak out just a little. Started it up and it went away. Very glad to know it is normal. Don’t remember reading that in the manual. Thanks….

Didn’t realize the evap system functions when the vehicle is off, I’ll have to pay attention to see if mine does this

My Tacoma did this and so does my wife's Rav4. I ran right to google the first time I heard it.

All Toyotas do it that I am aware of, at least the ones from around 2000 up to present. There are a bunch of conditions that have to be met for the evap test to run, then it will run when the car is just sitting there. It turns on a pump and sucks a vacuum down on the fuel system and tests for leaks.

Isn't it the truck pumping pressure into the tank then hold that pressure. It there is a leak it will throw a check engine light.

No, it pulls a vacuum to check for leaks.

That's what I ment. But yea its checking for leaks. If the test shows a leak or for some reason the test can't be performed correctly you get check engine light.

Ah, gotcha. Yeah, it’s checking for leaks and will throw a check engine light if it detects one. Leaks can be caused by many things, like a $1 switching valve that’s integral to the $400 charcoal vapor canister and can’t be replaced separately. Ask me how I know. Lol. :(

Just heard this for the first time tonight when sneaking back out to get Xmas gifts from the truck.
I thought maybe it had something to do with the extreme cold (for Dallas) weather we have had lately.

Will this cause the battery to drain?

My son came in the house one day and told me to come to the garage. When I entered the garage, I could hear my truck making that buzzing noise and I was curious as to what it was doing. I am very glad to hear that this is normal for the vehicle. I was gonna ask when I take it in for the 5,000 mile checkup, but not sure they would even know what I'm am talking about. Thanks again for sharing that info.

It's in your owner manual. Normal operation of the evap system check. It won't cause the battery to drain any more than any other car made in the last few decades.
