I recently picked up an '06 Tundra DC with the 4.7. The battery is being held down with a freaking bungee cord. Not something I'm a fan of. The link below I THINK is what I need. Any suggestions of somewhere else, I'm all ears. It looks like the front bolts onto the radiator support, but the rod on the back with a J hook on the bottom, I'm trying to figure out where that would attach to? I see there is a small triangular shaped hole near the rear of the battery tray, I wasn't sure if that was where it goes? It's a simple thing, but never having seen what it used to look like makes it a little harder. Thanks.

First off, welcome to the forum.

As a new 1st gen owner you should read this: https://www.tundras.com/threads/so-you-wanna-buy-just-bought-a-1st-gen-tundra-eh.115928/
It'll help you understand whether or not the truck is structurally/mechanically sound enough to put money into.

It's not recommended to buy parts on fleaBay or scAmazon due to counterfeits/knockoffs and generally poor quality parts, as is explained in that thread.

I would recommend hitting a junkyard, but to look up your OEM part number if you want to go that route, use this thread: https://www.tundras.com/threads/howto-use-the-toyota-parts-system-to-find-order-parts.113808/
(The bullets at the top are all you need; the part should be in the 'body' section)

Not sure if this helps but I have a 1st gen Tacoma and my battery hold down bracket is that exact part. Just mount the top side to the radiator support than you'll see where the j hook hooks up to on the otherside of the battery.

I also highly agree with what @shifty` suggested. Look for local junkyards or search OfferUp, Craigslist, or Marketplace for partouts. That'll should be super easy to find.

Thanks for that. I did read through that thread when I joined a few weeks ago. LOT'S of great info in there! I actually got it from a friend who bought it a year ago from one of his clients that had died. It looks really good, except for the hitch being eaten up, I knew that before I bought it, and some really sloppy wiring that was done for the air pump bypass, and for the lights on the aftermarket grill. I will be getting a new timing belt done in a few weeks. I'll fix up the wiring when the weather gets a little better. It actually has 3 years left on an Endurance aftermarket warranty.

A big thank you to @Coupe for his custom battery hold down. I got it today and installed it with no issues. VERY high quality, perfect fit, good attachment hardware, it even came with high quality instructions. Super happy with this, much nicer than the bungee cords it came with! Once the weather breaks, I can finish cleaning up under the hood. Sorry for the crappy picture, it was sprinkling when I finished. The finish on it is perfect.

That is a nice battery bracket!

When I bought my truck the battery was also held in place with a bungee cord. For anyone who finds this thread in the future, these are the parts for the factory DC hold down.

I'm running one on my Tundra and it's a fabulous piece of kit.

Now..........if only Coupe made coolant reservoir brackets! :crapstorm:

Now do yourself a favor, unless that battery is AGM: Felt washers with dielectric grease to both (1) save you from getting corrosion inside your cable housings and (2) keep that hold-down looking nice and new, b/c we already saw one person see corrosion jump from terminal to holddown and FUBAR it.

Thanks for the reminder. I did do a quick clean up and coating of the battery posts already. I'm going to try to clean up the cable ends, I may have to replace them. They got pretty corroded from not having any grease on them. I had pulled the battery to see if there were rust issues underneath. There's rust there but it appears to be superficial, nothing too bad. As soon as the weather gets a little better, I need to pull the battery, spend some time cleaning up the cable ends, put the felt washers on, and clean up the rust around the battery and paint under it. I'm taking it to the dealer tomorrow for the airbag recall that was never done.

Only thing I wish was that the J-bolts came in stainless. Not sure if those are available anywhere.

Hitch is eaten up, battery bracket was eaten and gone, bracket in the picture adjacent is also rusty. Worth a real rust inspection shake down before going too crazy.

It's an eastern PA truck in the middle of the ice/salt belt, so pretty typical. Body is solid with no rust, frame looks good.
