Question about the glove box shelf..

This is kinda odd, but I need to know..

I replaced my cabin filter a couple of months ago.
I recently noticed an interior rattle that was driving me up the wall.
The wife narrowed it down to the glove box shelf.

I took it out and repositioned it, but it still has a bit of a rattle.

Question is:
The left side snaps into place.
On the right side bottom, it looks like it sits on top of 2 holes on the glove box floor with a felt pad between them.
Pictured is what sits in that hole.
I can't tell if that piece is supposed to have clips that snap into the holes, or if it always looked like that.
I'm not sure if these grooves sit in the hole, or if the clips broke off.

So please when you have a minute, will you look and see how the shelf sits in the glove box?

Maybe if you pull the broken pieces out and throw something soft under it will be good enough…

Yeah its a horrible design, my clips arent broken but good luck getting it to stay in place. I put a bunch of that soundproofing tape to thicken the clips so it doesnt rattle.

 

Mine broke the first time I replaced my filter. I'm missing one clip and attached foam tape to a few areas to try and stop the rattle. Maybe it's time to just remove it.

You are missing the clips that @AZBoatHauler shows in the above pic.

 

Yep...once you remove it the first time, it will rattle. I find that shelf useless.

I've had the manual on that shelf since December of 2014.
Even when I needed something, I'd use the online manual..

Being the part is $60, I think I'll just pull it out..

Of course, the obvious follow up question is - once those clips break, where does the plastic trash go? $10 says that's causing other rattles elsewhere.

I know what I'm doing soon as I get a break. LOL

 

I pull the shelf the rattle is gone.
If there was still noise in there, I'd pull the glove box out.
It wouldn't be the first time..
