Why only for the supercharged guys?

Are you looking for reliabilty or better cooling? My 2uzfe supercharged keeps at 210° coolant temp in traffic with 120° weather
It was crawling in traffic so long my IAT was 180° ( wish they had a charge cooler for it ) but coolant stayed btween 200-210°

For reliability i would trust the stock plastic koyo or replacement denso radiator over a "frostbite" aluminum radiator

I'm mainly looking for better cooling for sitting in traffic.

I already have an upgraded tranny cooler

My cooling is stock, even my thermostat is stock. Trd no longer makes the 160° thermostat for the supercharged guys so i put in the stock oem.

For better cooling sitting in traffic, switch to electric fans or add a front electric pusher fan. Fancy aluminum radiators do not add cooling capability. You need to get a 3 core radiator for that.

Water wetter or run 100% water if you need more cooling

Run a Coolant Flush through your system before installing new components. I just did this and my system wasn’t dirty. The first flush (3 gallons of distilled water with 2 bottles Prestone Flush) looked like slightly dirty coolant and then ran two more distilled water flushes. Added 50/50 Asian Red as the top off with new Denso Radiator.

Thermostat dropped 10-15°. Went from 195-200° down to 185° steady average temps. I did correct a bottom Rad Shield Cover, added a new heavy duty accessory belt, a new tensioner, and added some foam sealing strips such that the air actually flows into the radiator front better and also isn’t sucking hot air back in from the engine bay (like when sitting idle).

Little things make a big difference. Both the foam strips at top and bottom are factory designs. The bottom one had shrunk and the top one was removed during last radiator change and not put back. They stop the hot blow back air from recirc’ing back in front of the rad while simultaneously facilitating better suction front to back.

Thanks, already did a flush like you listed, just getting ready for the supercharger install so I have to do it again and since I get stuck in traffic alot here I'm looking at upgrading just to be safe and since I'm there.
I already have an upgraded tranny cooler, URD thermostat, and a few other things so I'll get that foam too!

    Thanks

I’m not one of the “supercharged folks” but I had this happen to my OEM plastic junk (water pumped failed dumped coolant and ran dry) and to put a stock one back was like $30 bucks cheaper so I said fuck it

That's what I've been seeing, mixed reviews but a lot of people seem to blow the top plastics in the same spot.
I'm actually looking at the exact radiator that you posted.
It's been recommended by a few people now.

I would not reccomend the champion radiator listed, true it is a 3 core radiator but each core is 5/8 inch (16mm) vs a dual core with 1 (25.4mm) inch tubes . Both are approx 2 inch thick but 3 x 16mm cores actually has less surface area than 2 x 25.4 mm and therefore LESS cooling capacity.

If you want all aluminum get a koyorad or mishimoto radiator.
Personally i would change a denso $150 radiator with the water pump and timing belt as opposed to not knowing if a $600 ( that i did not change) radiator might break a weld after 100k miles.

P.S a true 3 core radiator would be 3 inches thick, anyone advertising 3 core radiator that fit stock (2 inch) is selling marketing hype

I tried the CSF radiator. turns out it only fits double cabs. the champion may be the same. Just so its known, the champion radiators have had a high failure rate (lots of failures after a year or 2. bad welds) on the 1st gen Tacoma's. I had a custom one made by radiator supply house out of Oregon for my tundra.. will report back on how it performs once it shows up. went with a 2 row all aluminum build. was like 800 total i think before the shipping. but i'll pay for drop in american made radiators... They said a 3 row can be done too. but honestly that may be a bit much for a 4.7...

    Just food for thought:

    1) Our thermostats open at 180°

    2) Engine runs optimal at 180-200°

    3) New Denso Radiator is keeping my engine at 185°

    4) Why would I want a Radiator that runs cooler?

(I understand the solid made Aluminum vs. Plastikt Debate).

the engine running stock like yours the factorys fine. once adding things like boost. factory cooling can be overwhelmed by the extra heat created by the increased cylinder pressures and what not.. does mine need extra cooling? no. i really did it for the better made tanks.. and the transmission cooler is integrated in a way that i prefer over the stock style

Just found that Mishimoto has a new version for Acess cabs with the tranny cooler so I'm going with it.

Mainly I'm worried about being stuck in LA traffic here in SoCal during a 100+ day.
I've had great experiences with Koyo and Mishimoto in my other race cars stuck on the 15 to Vegas going to SEMA.
Was on the hwy for almost 14 hours in our R33 skyline one year...
The Koyo never moved that much.
Similar experiences with Mishimoto though not that extreme.

I've had stock Denso's on our Supra blow, All in the same spots on the top plastics, so the plastic is really what worries me.

And I'm doing all this for longevity and so why not at this point?
Not like I'm going to save money on this truck now...:rofl::rofl::rofl:

Well I think the advice I have given here justifies a gift. I think a trd 4.7 block and heads would suffice!

Also low speed rock crawling in hot climates like Moab, or slow towing up steep grades. It's no so much run cooler as it is the ability to keep it cool in extreme situations.

That Mishimoto Radiator will be the next one going in my truck in a few years. Even comes with a cap!

Looking forward to hearing about its longevity vs. Champion.

Fair point. So far towing I haven’t had coolant temp issues. But trans temp definetly

Mishimoto makes some top notch stuff. Sometimes the fit can be a wee bit off. But reliability on all the ones I’ve seen has been great.

Two questions. How is the radiator holding up and where can I get that battery hold down?
