    Hey folks,

I was about to put spiked lug nuts on my Tundra. That is something I wanted to do a while ago, and now I feel it's time. Before I go and start reading tons of reviews (80% of which are fake) on different lug nuts, I wanted to ask you here something. Sure thing, some may think that my questions are stupid or something. Yet, I came here for help.

So, here is what I wanted to find out about spike lugs:
    1) Are they street legal?
    2) Do they make extra noise?
    3) Is it better to pick one- or 2-piece lugs?
    4) What material is better: steel or aluminum?

    Many thanks.

I don't think many run Spiked lugs here.

A quick forum search turns up a few Mad Max references though.

    Don't do it.

Well, that was just an idea. I have never dealt with spiked lugs yet, and I was not really sure whether I wanted them or not. So I decided to ask you, folks.
Having studied this mod in reddit in Tundra groups I can say that this is far not the best mod for the Tundra, just like you said.
Yet, this was just an idea. By the way, there are still people who say that spiked lugs are cool. Yet, with no pictures of their Tundras with spike lugs.
So I am giving up this idea, folks.

    Cheers!

I had spiked lug nuts on a previous Tundra build.

    1. I don’t know if they are legal in your state. I never had an issue but I never checked if they were in TX though.
    2. They didn’t make any extra noise at all.
    3. I picked the one piece. That’s really a personal preference. The two piece can be nice to replace if one gets scratched or damaged.
    4. I would not use aluminum lug nuts. I would trust steel since it’s a much harder metal.

Make sure you check how long they are. They make ones that are extremely long and they will stick out very far.

Here is a photo of my previous set up. They didn’t stick out very far from the face of the wheel. They still stayed recessed in the barrel of the rim.

I think it’s something to do with:

Plus the extra-deep splined socket needed to remove them makes wheel theft that much harder. Or maybe some people just like the look. I dunno.:notsure:

    Too many, but not enough....
I imagine the same reason as kids wearing spiked bracelets and spikes on their helmets?

Each spiked lug nut adds 5 hp and improves your gas mileage.
