I love everything about my 21 TRD pro but I would like quieter exhaust. Keep the duals but quieter exhaust. Anybody do this yet?

I’m over here trying to make my TRD duals louder! I think it’s a great sound but a little quiet. I have heard that installing an H pipe between the 2 banks quiets it down a bit and also gets rid of the “helicopter” sound some people report.

With a good stereo when you do not want to hear the exhaust just turn up the volume! :)

I'm pretty disappointed with the JBL system in it. I have sold and installed audio systems for years and this JBL is sad!

I cut the end sections off mine so it dumps pointing to the ground after the rear axle. This helped reduce the drone and I prefer the look without the tips and pipes hanging down.

How many miles? I found mine has really quieted down over time. The first 10-15K miles it was distractingly loud and had a strange helicopter whoop whoop, but now it has quieted down nicely. Then again, in 2020 I added a Bullitt Mustang, so anything else is quieter ;)

Like Frank said, call Keith Carty at 1-760-877-4234 and prepare yourself to learn everything there is to know about Tundra exhaust systems! I've 'traded up' twice for a quieter exhaust and (as per Keith's warranty) it only cost me shipping. I haven't towed with my 20" yet but I still decided last year to trade up again. Everything was put on hold when we lost a family member, so I'll need to 're-group.' Ask about his oversized resonator when you talk to him. You WON'T do better than Keith's custom built exhausts. My brother has Keith's dual system, he's really happy with it. I have a "dual system" too but they're on the same side!:D

You can get x pipes prebuilt from most performance shops like Summit Racing, Jegs, etc, or even order then off as Scamazon. Most exhaust shops will either have them on the shelf or be able to fabricate one.

Any exhaust shop with a bender can also fabricate a j pipe resonator; the trick can be talking them in to building it. It’s literally just a specific length of pipe that is capped on one end (the exhaust doesn’t exit through the resonator) that’s welded in at 90 degrees to the exhaust tube(s).

The trd exhaust keeps each bank of the motor separate as it is a true dual exhaust. This means you hear each exhaust pulse at slightly different times from different sides of the truck which is what gives you the whomp whomp helicopter noise. Using an x pipe allows each bank to crossover with the other to equalize the exhaust pulse in each leg of the exhaust (among other things) quieting things down a little. You may find the resonators to be unnecessary.

If you do find that you need resonators, being a dual exhaust you will need one on each side. They ought to be tuned by length the offending frequencies.
