I am working on replacing the steering rack in a 2006 DC. Everything is going great except I can't seem to get the lower and upper steering shaft properly reconnected.

I bought a used "intermediate shaft assembly" because the original was very rusty, when I connect the rack to the lower steering shaft it seems like there is not enough of the sliding yoke to grip the upper shaft. Is the upper shaft suppose to be able to move up and down? mine only moves a few mm at the most. I used a air chisel on the yoke to get it off originally, it is possible I pushed the upper shaft too far up?

    thanks
