    A first for 2022+?
Noticed the truck "howling" a bit from dead stop to 30-40MPH but didn't think much of it for a couple of hours as it has been hot and humid as hell the whole day.
Then, in the evening, I thought it was strange that it didn't go away and once I started paying attention I realized the fan clutch was always engaged.
No matter what I did (or didn't) the truck was/is "howling" like an airboat through all the gears.
Shut it down, and I can only turn the fan by hand about 45 degrees, with felt resistance.
Figured I'd give it a chance to cool off till this AM and see again.
    Sure enough, no change.

Have an appointment set up for tomorrow for "radiator fan clutch failed/stuck."
    33.6k miles on the truck.

Here's to my 1st claim to fame on the new Tundras suck bandwagon.
    :annoyed:

I guess I'd have to look, but I'm really surprised that they have a mechanical fan? I would have bet money they were e-fans.

    Edit: Mind Blown

Thankfully (well, not at the moment) they are not.
I vividly remember my 2013 F150 with it's wonderful e-fans, which would go into "hey, look at me, I'm an airplane!" mode during hot summer months/etc. Can't say I miss them.

My fan in my Mercedes Sprinter is a viscous type fan as well and I found the dampening fluid inside the fan and shroud when it was running warm so it wasn't locking up. I've seen others where the bearings seize in the fan clutch and the fan is always on like what you have. First time I've read about it in a Tundra though. Be interesting to see what they do, my guess is swap out the fan clutch and send you on your way

There are still efans for the A/C condenser.

I'd be surprised if they were viscous still. Most of the mechanical fans have gone to electric control. Hell, my dads 2008 Trailblazer SS had a electrically activated mechanical fan.

Pros and cons I suppose. My work truck is an F150 with the 5.0. I can idle all day long in 100+ deg temps and have no worries since the e-fans will keep enough air moving.

Car care nut states the mechanical fan is controlled electronically with solenoids.
I'll try to fine the vid.

Excellent diagram. This is the same I heard in an engineers review of the G3 on YT.

    Update:
Took them 2 full days to diag, open a case with Toyota, wait for response, test a whole lot more then needed...and ultimately replace the stuck (solenoid(s)not releasing fully from engagement) fan clutch.
Judging by part no. used it's not a Tundra-only clutch.

    Happens, I guess.
...at least I got to take some exit ramps at 50+MPH in the Camry I got as a loaner.
    :)

Consider yourself lucky. Most of the time these fans fail to freewheel and overheating can happen.

Same thing happened to my Duramax at 85k miles in Tennessee. Like you, I got lucky and the fan was locked for the 18 hour straight trip. That would have sucked in 101*F weather.

Had to read the exit ramp twice:monocle:
First came to mind was you got a boner......sorry it's been a busy day:thumbsup:.
I personal would get one just getting a loaner car as Ford not once was able or willing to do!

Glad it's fixed, so it's an electric controlled clutch fan, not the usual stand alone thermal fan?

I think any good design would fail in a stuck closed position. Would suck to lose all cooling, likely would only happen when it’s hot.

22/23 has a cool little magnetic coupling unit that rides right at the edge of the clutch for ECM control. Was looking at it yesterday.

That's a fact. I've had it go the other way a couple times though....and it does suck.

I know it's an old thread, but I just got back home after being away for over a month (working in Florida) and my truck is doing the same thing. The fan was louder than the engine and turbos! I spent 4 hours at the dealership, and they said the clutch is "sticking" and needs to be replaced, even though there were no error codes on the computer. 2022 with 50k miles. I was been loyal to the dealership where I bought the truck but I’m heading to my local Toyota dealer for a second opinion. They quoted me $2,500 to replace it.

Bet your mph went in the tank too!! $2500, holy crap. Should be easy to swap out yourself but I have no clue what the unit cost is

If it was an older Toyota I would do it myself. What boggles me, no error codes were detected. Fan runs at high speed, no matter how fast I am going.

So I’m curious about the inductive pickup/coil that’s mounted to just line up but not touch the fan clutch housing. If it’s knocked out of alignment and can’t induce power into the clutch is an error thrown? Might take a peek down there and look at it. I’m going to take a refresher look myself tomorrow since it’s been well over a year since I looked at it last

Ran some diagnostics and found P04807E (fan actuator stuck on). They will be replacing the fan fluid coupling assembly like OP. 22 Tundra with 50k miles just for reference.

    OMG
I hope you are not paying them/anyone $2500 to replace a $150 part on your truck!
    This ain't a friggin' Bugatti!!!

A jug of coolant and an afternoon, and this can easily be done by [almost] anyone...

This other dealer quoted me $900. $300 for the part and $600 for labor and diagnostic.

    I'd keep on looking.

How can they charge you double, with a straight face, when the MSRP on every single Toyota dealer site I visited just now is $173.13?
Literally every google search hit on page#1 (from Toyota/Lex dealers) for "16210-70110" part number has them listed for anywhere between $125 and $173.

This amazingly loud fan roar at any speed is happening to me. I just had my 2nd oil changed at 17,000 a couple weeks ago but only put a couple hundred miles on it.

I'm sure it will be. On my way now to dealer. They won't be able to take a look until Monday.
