I have seen alot about the rb20s on here and wanted to know has anyone had any experience with the rough country rpt2 running boards. Also wanted to know which ones sit up tighter to the truck? Pic would really help. Looking to buy one of these in the next day or 2. Thank you in advance

I was torn between the two as well, I ended up going with the RPT2's. The RPT2's sit much higher and tighter to the truck, they are pretty wide though.

Yea it's a tough decision. Looks good. Did you get them coated or is that an option?

I picked up the HD2 and they look great but after one winter they are rusted bad. RC sent me a warranty replacement and I have held on to them until this weekend. I figured I would wait until good weather to replace them. I hope these last longer, but based on what I am seeing, it is not good.RC board 1.jpg rc board 2.jpg rc board 3.jpg

They are cheap stamped metal with a cheap coating they are never gonna last very long in areas that use any kind of deicer in the winter. Running boards have a lot of flat areas the water and snow with deicer has places to pool up giving those types of steps a very short life. Look at bar style steps where the water has no place to pool you will get a little longer life. Even the BAMF sliders I had on my tacoma needed to be recoated after 5 years and they were anything but cheap.

Well that's not good to hear. I was hoping for a quality product from them but I guess that's why they are cheaper. I guess quality will be hit and miss with all these companies. You just have to go for what you like and assume whatever happens probably would've happened with any brand

I'm in California so nothing crazy as far as weather but my boys play multiple sports and always getting in an out like animals with their cleats on so that's where my chips will come from. Still wanted to see some more pics before I make my decision but maybe the rpt2 would be there better option if I'm going to spend a few hundred on top to get them line-x coated. Not sure how good they would look of how long they would last if I tried to coat them myself since I have never done anything like that before

I have RB20’s and the way the rocket panels of these trucks tuck around under the step makes the slim line models too narrow to provide a good step. You can barely get a half foot on there. I wish I had gotten the standard width ones.

The Go Rhino RB20 Running Boards are mounted with just enough clearance for the back lip of the running board. The RB series is a popular pick for the Tundra, as well as the Tacoma, because of how it complements the cab angles and design of the body. Not to mention, it comes with an impressive limited lifetime warranty.

Thanks for joining the convo Santana. So what is the limited lifetime warranty cover? I'm assuming that's what puts you guys over the competition

The warranty covers any manufacturer defects. The RB series come in either a protective bed liner coating or a textured black powder coat finish, and the finish has it's own 5-year warranty.

I’ve only had them for a few months now. The finish does scratch fairly easy from gravel and what not.. I’m not too worried about it as when it gets bad I will just yank them off and coat them with bedliner.

I coated the brackets and runnings boards with Herculiner before I installed them. I didn't want to deal with rusting. When I ordered mine last year I called and asked if they offered any discounts and they gave me 10% off.

I'd look at the TRD pro running boards, they're better than anything after market.

Yea I should probably do that 2 even without the weather being a major issue for me. I'm sure it's straight forward. Thanks for all the help

Yea probably but I'm not looking to pay that much for running boards. I might be looking in the wrong places but I have seen them run about $1k

How many cans did it take you for boards and brackets?

Two one quart cans, I scuffed up the boards and brackets with sandpaper. It felt wrong to scuff up perfectly good powder coat, but I knew it wouldn't last.

You rolled it on over spray on? Is it better that way or just more cost effective? Never done it so just asking

The non bedliner one. Not sure what the coating is.

Didn't realize they had a spray on option. I'd imagine the spray on option would be hard to keep under control.
