Not much remarkable here... they basically said the Ford is more modern etc and "if you prefer reliability and longevity above all' you will choose the Tundra. Yep, agree.

But based on my 250 mile test drive of a Lariat with Eco Boost, they should also add, "if you prefer RIDE QUALITY."

I have read a handful of reviews that don't seem to have ever driven this truck. The ride quality is rarely cited as excellent as it is. And Fords are cited as having great ride comfort (suspension) which they do not at all--very bouncy and not confidence inspiring. Well... the press may be 'off' on this.

Hmmm, just my thought after reading this....

I know next gen Tundra is coming prob in 2022, and will prob be a turbo V6.... but I would not change this vehicle. All I would do is add more tech and comfort stuff for those who need/want that. This truck is hard to make better.

    TEXAS!

i purchased my '19 BECAUSE it lacked the technology that i would NOT use. power train reliability was my reason.

    i live in south texas...

does the radio pick up am/fm? check...

more importantly, does the A/C blow cold? check...

    let's make a deal!

not a fan of when thing's that i dont' use or care about break. if they just broke, and that was that, who cares? but, many times when technology breaks, other things are affected.

truth be told; haven't even sync'd my phone. NOW, GET OFF MY LAWN!

I can’t talk about the reliability, performance, blah, blah, blah of an F150 because the last one I owned was a 1977 model. What I can say is they are FUGLY! Even Rams look better.

I cant either. Last one I had was a 2004 Sporttrac that was actually a good truck other then the loose parts (washers) I found in tranny on first fluid change. The last F150 was a 2001 Supercrew that was a complete pile of dung. I spent $4k on it before 90k miles. I did some work myself. That 2001 F150 is what converted me. 2 Tacomas and Tundra and no problems.

Maybe OP did forget, but do you really need to read yet another article where the author is swinging from the "Big 3's" nuts and bashing Toyota for being archaic?

Come on, you know what they say. “The F-150 is up to date! It has all this technology and power and gets great gas mileage. The Tundra meanwhile is an outdated gas hog.” If you want to know what the F-150 is really like, look at all the complaining going on on the F-150 forums. It’s very enlightening.

My question regarding the “outdated” tundra compared to other brands. What exactly do the other brands have that the tundra doesn’t?

Or is the dated excuse based more on the look rather than features?

It’s based on things like 8 & 10 speed transmissions vs 6, engines with more power and better gas mileage, better infotainment systems. Stuff like that.

I gotcha. Honestly those other brands can keep their gas saving methods.

I had a 18 Silverado with active fuel management and it was nothing but trouble. It might have gotten 20 mpg but the transmission had no idea what gear it was supposed to be in when trying to go from 4 cylinder mode back to 8. Not to mention the eventual failed lifters and burning oil that always happens on those things.

Sometimes simpler is better. Give me something tried and true over a gimmick to save a few bucks at the pump.

I upgrade my truck a couple months ago. Thought about something other than the Tundra. I don’t care about all the high tech stuff. I wanted rock solid reliability. Went with another Tundra!

I just traded my 2018 f150 ecoboost 3.5 max tow for my tundra limited crew max. No the tundra not faster and on paper it doesn't tow as much as the f150. But I will tell you the f150 I used to tow my 30' camper and it got thrown around by that camper. I hated it. The Tundras is heavier by almost 800lbs. It handled the trailer very well. My f150 was not as comfortable. The Tundras feel more like a 3/4 ton and for reason. The f150 turbos were feeling it and loosing power by the end of the trip I felt.. The tundra limited never missed a beat.

These trucks need a higher GVWR. The tundra is a heavy truck and that limits the trailer you can actually tow Legally with passengers/cargo in the truck.

Hello all, although not a Tundra owner, i do have lots of Toyota trucks, from a 94 4runner up thru a 200 series. A neighbor of mine has a 17 F150 with the ecoboost engine, recently it has gone into limp mode twice, once while towing a 6000lb boat, and once while towing a 2000lb pop up trailer. Pretty pathetic performance in my book for a supposedly tough full size truck. So, how did he respond? He traded it in on a brand new F150. He's not alone, although it's probably not even half the truck the Tundra is, most will choose the Ford, tough to understand.

same, i can't stand when too much crap is stuffed into the head unit. loved my mazda for it's volume knob by the shifter and separate HVAC controls. The wife has a ford flex that had the touchscreen die, couldn't do hardly anything until that got replaced.

exactly, an engine that is actually more efficient is one thing, but AFM is just stuff to break with marginal benefit.

One of the first things I did after owning that truck was disable afm. It is just a problem waiting to happen. Gas mileage impact was minimal so my belief is it was on there to satisfy some other requirement and while being branded as this big gas saver

I could not help but read and offer my observations for what is worth.. We currently own a 2020 expedition, which is my wife's truck. I realize that an F150 is not an expedition but bear with me. She previously drove a Yukon Denali. If we could trade the expy for a reliable denali we would. Originally, We wanted to buy a Sequoia but could not find one on a lot with 100 miles of our house. So we went with the Ford. The expy has way too many electronic items on it. It has a dial shifter, which we hate. I has the auto engine shut off function which sucks.. The ecoboost has plenty of power but there is still a lag, it is just not the same as a V8. However, In all fairness it is geared differently then the tundra.
Now, I bought a 2020 TRD PRO because it is as simple as they come. It has the same drive train as my brother's 2007 tundra. I love it. You know when it is running and it does not automatically shut off.
However, I can see how the majority of the people want all the electronic stuff in a truck, but to me it is just something to go wrong just outside of warranty. I am not interested in a TT V6 in any of my trucks.

I want a Pro but I'm hesitant to spend that kind of money on a platform that is so damn old. What to do. I have a warrior now. I did test drive a Raptor just to see how the v6 turbo would feel like. I can only imagine the Yota will be better. I'm jealous of your Pro.

I would say keep your rock warrior... I do not like driving our Ford Expedition with the eco boost. It is faster then the tundra, but the comparison is not fair due to rear end gear ratios, to say the least. The 5.7 and the transmission just seam better to me.. I know its old but that is why I bought it, as funny as that sounds.. The raptor is nice and really can't be compared to the TRD PRO. It is clearly more truck but I could not afford it. My PRO fit the bill for me perfectly.

It is a difficult decision. I really love the 20 and 21 Pro. I almost want to jump on it and give it to my son in 4 years. It does have a ton more safety features then my 09. My warrior only has 104 k miles and it looks great. What to do what to do. What color is your Pro and any pictures you can share?

I know multiple people who own Chevys/GMCs with the AFM, and *literally* every single one of them disables AFM almost before they leave the dealership. LOL

    A bunch
Most of the time it feels like they get car 'journalists' (or bloggers) to review trucks. So they want a cushy ride, they don't care about responsiveness or connection to the road. The F150's I've driven have the softness down to a T, but that's no good when you put a lot of weight in it or go down rough roads. I just find if you use a truck as a truck the Tundra works better, want a grocery getting that has space, power, and height then the F150 works.

So maybe I just read the title wrong but I guess the OP is calling his brief comments the review here?

I was expecting an actual review by a reviewer for some reason.
