I noticed that the alignment lines on my backup camera are off by about 4" to the passenger side. Seeing that my main use for the backup camera is hitching up to a trailer this is a great disappointment. When I took it in and asked about it the dealer said they don't have a fix for it and that it was that way on all of the other Tundras on the lot so that's the way Toyota shipped it. I find this rather difficult to believe and was wondering if others have had similar issues.

They all are. The camera isn’t in the middle of the tail gate.

My 2018 is also like this and it pisses me off everytime I use it for backing up to hitch. How does Toyota miss such a basic simple thing. HoW ?

    Good grief...
As @Danman34 stated, the camera is not in the center of the tailgate.

You can see the hitch ball and trailer tongue plain as day.
How hard is it to line up?

Maybe you guys need to put your own camera in a license plate frame so it is perfectly centered.
But then you would bitch about the low angle..:rolleyes:

Really that’s about all there is to say, it’s off center because it’s not in the center of the tailgate but it really doesn’t hurt backing up and putting the ball under the hitch. I don’t understand how anyone would consider that an issue.

Anyone replaced the camera with something better? Wonder if it would tie into the stock system.

I watch the ball and the trailer coupler, never paid any attention to the centerline, so not sure how that lines up. I do know by watching the ball and coupler I have been right on target each time.

I just used another truck with the camera mounted in the license plate (aftermarket). Simply hated it. The Tundra camera, although not perfect, is sliced bread in comparison.

It kind of bothered me at first that it wasn’t centred………but sure beats having the wife out directing like years ago.

Or worse yet, doing it by yourself... Back up to get close, walk around to see how you did, re-adjust, walk around to see how you did, backup a few inches to get closer, walk around to see how you did, back up a few more inches, walk around to see how you did, backup a few more inches, ram the trailer tongue into the bumper, pull forward a few inches, walk around to see how you did, back up an inch, say "that's close enough" and lower the trailer yanking on the tongue to get it to drop onto the hitch.

Or maybe it was just my lack of skill. First thing I did on my 1st Gen Tundra was add a backup camera. I had no issue with the camera on my 2nd gen or 3rd gen.

I've noticed this as well, but have just learned to not use the centering tick mark. I can generally get lined up pretty well with the camera, but for whatever reason I have a very difficult time getting lined up fore/aft. I have a hard time seeing it clearly enough in the camera to know if I need to go back a bit more, if I've gone too far, etc. Just need more practice, I guess. :D

This is comparatively like people sitting in loungers complaining that the sparkling wine is a bit dry for their taste.

The camera isn't centered, it's not new news. The problem is almost all trailer toungs are black. Put some tape or paint just the ball portion a lighter color so you can see it better.

My only complaint about the camera lines being off center is when I'm trying to center the truck in a parking spot. The hitch thing doesn't bother me.

I should go paint my ball, got it.

Mine are all chrome, show up pretty well. But if you're having a problem a bike flag on your trailer tongue works well.

The problem with the bike flag is it would be too tall to see in the camera, but a good option if you don't have a rear camera and put one on the truck too. Actually they sell a trailer set at wal-mart, If you want the hassel. Besides that don't paint your trailer ball, paint the coupler on the trailer.

Painting my coupler doesn’t have the same ring to it. Mine are all silver anyway, I don’t have any issues hooking up. Just don’t ask me to back up a trailer.

I don't think I have even looked at the east/west line. If I put the north/south line directly over the hole in the coupler on my boat trailer it is right over the ball.
