Where we live in AZ the city water is full of minerals and probably arsenic and other crap and we buy several gallons a week for drinking and cooking. My wife had a kidney stone a couple years ago and she blames it on the water.

Any recommendations on a water filter system brand or type? I don't know if we need a whole house system but maybe just one for the kitchen sink. We probably use @ 3 gallons a week.

I have this under the kitchen sink feeding the refrigerator, no separate faucet on the sink. Only water we drink, ice cubes are nice and clear also.

Test ppm every month, always single digit. Best bottled water tested was 20 ppm, my tap water is 500 - 700 ppm.

This is what I went to start with. https://www.purewaterproducts.com/model-77-countertop-water-filter

Good company to deal with. Depending on quality of water you may want to go for a reverse osmosis system.

Can you tell me more about how you're testing?

High levels of Calcium and Magnesium are primarily what makes your water hard in AZ. Two options you’ll want to look at are an RO unit under the kitchen sink for drinking and ice. You might also want to look at a water softener for your house to keep your fixtures working longer and reduce mineral buildups. There is a lot of misinformation and hype about toxic chemicals in drinking water. If you are connected to a municipal water system, ask to see the latest CCR (consumer confidence report) to see where your water is in regards to various EPA pollutant levels. If you have a well for your drinking water get it tested by an independent lab. If you live near a military installation, inquire about known plumes of TCE, PERC, Jet Fuel, MOGAS and PFAS.

Whole house water softener (it comes with 1-2 particulate filters), a 3-4 stage reverse osmosis for drinking water with 2-4 gallon tank under kitchen sink. Water is so clean that I use it to dilute coolant concentrate vs buying distilled water at CVS (where it could be a tap water as my water hardness meter showed once).

Reverse osmosis system you can install yourself, not a rocket science at all.
