Need a new alt, Toyota dealer says 295 for a remanufactured unit. I looked up denso, because I saw them mentioned in a few forums here, and they run $225 w/ shipping for a reman unit online. Need to get this done fast so might be worth the premium just to pick it up at the dealer (they have it in stock).

Both have the same 1 year warranty

What do y'all think? Any other options I should look at?

    Thanks

I’d go with the Denso unit. Basically the same, and you can pocket the spare change...

How many miles on your alternator? I would be getting a new set of brushes and have my own version of "reman" for $20.

I just bought and installed a Denso Reman from special stealer programme. $212 (after core bring back) for the 100amp for 2002 V8.

They clean and lube and bench test everything. Looks brand new. Took apart my original to inspect the brushes to discover they were below spec. All the corrosion in there was gnarly. I’m sure I could have cleaned it up and just replaced the brushes for about $25, but went the easy route as my hands were full with the Timing Belt Job.

You can check my build page for pics.

Change the brushes, it is 5 mins to do ( after you have removed the alternator). Dealers should have them in stock.
If you your bearings are making noise or not rotating smoothly and it is too much added work/cost to press them out you can get a rebuilt alternator from Copperstate Auto Electric/Tuscon Alternator Exchange depending on where in AZ you live. You can also get lifetime warranty from them if you want

150k miles, I think the voltage reg was failing. Next time around I'll try just replacing the brushes. Bought a new alt and swapped it in already. Thanks for the responses

Nice. Safe call. That alternator is in a semi-difficult position to want to replace twice. If I had to do it over again, I’d do the same thing and replace with only Denso new or reman.

Yep. Why oh why does removing the alt need to just BARELY interfere with the PS pump... Hopefully I don't have to deal with that again for another 150k!
