I live in an area that doesn't have go cell reception, let alone AT&T (which seems that's what Toyota uses). Since the remote start, whether key fob or obviously app, goes through cell to start the car, it's useless to me. I'm looking for a standalone system that could bypass immobilization. Anyone install a 3rd party remote start system? What do you like/dislike about it.

How to remote start Toyota Tundra with key fob or mobile device
POSTED ON SEPTEMBER 11, 2021 BY NABEEL

Toyota Tundra supports remote start feature that allows you to remotely start the engine of your vehicle for the purpose of cooling or preheating the interior before the passengers gets to it.

The remote start feature on Toyota Tundra has many benefits. You can start your vehicle in advance when the weather is too hot or cold outside. The system turns on the air conditioning or heating, making inside cabin temperature more tolerable when you get to your vehicle.

Before you start your Tundra remotely, ensure that the vehicle is parked in a well ventilated area. Starting your vehicle in an enclosed space, like a closed garage, introduces risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.

    Remote start procedure for Tundra
You can remotely start your Toyota Tundra by following these simple steps:

    1. Press and release the LOCK button twice within two seconds on the key fob of your Tundra.
    2. Then press and hold the LOCK button for three seconds on the key fob.
    3. The turn signal lights flash multiple times and the engine starts.
    4. Once started remotely, the engine will run for 10 minutes and then shut down automatically.
For safety reasons, the engine will turn off if you open any door on your Tundra when the engine is running after remote start. A valid key must be inside your vehicle to switch the ignition on and drive your vehicle.

Apparently, still uses cell service with fob. I can start the car in town but not many places I normally travel.

I dont think it uses cell service if you use the fob. I crank mine everyday with the fob and it starts within 3 second of the third button being pressed. If I use the phone it takes 45-60 seconds to crank after sending the request. I believe when the remote connect trial expires after 3 years, the functionality for the fob to remote start will be shutdown by the computer if the service is not renewed. Hopefully Toyota will come to their senses before then or someone will come up with a permanent solution by then.

One thing to note. On my 24 I couldn't get it to work. Then I tried pressing once, then a second time within 2 sec. & holding. I was holding on a 3rd press, that didn't work, holding the second press worked.

FOB doesn't use cell but you basically have to be within spitting distance of the truck for it to work.
