I cannot figure out how to set the heated seats and heated steering wheel to come on when remote starting the truck in cold weather. Thank you for your assistance.

Turn them on before you get out of the truck.

Thank you DRP. That is way old school. My 21 GMC seats and the steering wheel would come on automatically if the truck was cold. They auto-off when I hit the start button. It was always just enough to take the cold off the surfaces. Very nice feature. Did I just take a step backward? This is something I should not have to remember to do on a new truck every time I park anticipating needing to have them come on in the morning when cold.

I haven't come across anything that says it happens automatically but if there is, I'm sure someone will chime in.

The entire remote start process and functionality for the tundras is a step in the wrong direction IMO. GM was unfortunately more advanced with this regard so yes, you took a step backward there.

This is incredibly frustrating and unfortunate. I never anticipated that these modern convenient features would not work automatically like my 3-year-old GMC. Bummer!

Every evening I turn on my heated seat, turn on heated steering wheel, set temp to max. Remote start in the morning. Come out in 5 minutes and everything is toasty. Only nuisance is having to restart.

Why do we have to turn off the A/C auto mode off? What does this do? Thanks,

My 2007 Yukon Denali used to do this. Was set for hot or cool depending on the outdoor temp. Was very nice.

My steering wheel heat survives the power cycle. The switch is not momentary, but push on, push off.

Well, you are in Texas so don't get to use as often as we do here.

One of the thing I gripe about; my wife have a tesla model 3. Man, the people at Tesla really way ahead of the game with theirs tech stuff. I wish my tundra app could do that. From viewing cameras while you’re away. Honk, turn on a bunch of features all thru the app while you’re in a whole different state! Like when I walk away from the Tesla, it’d know and lock my door, or keep a certain temperature in the car while I make a quick stop here and there.

I mean…you already able to remotely started the engine. It shouldn’t be difficult to design a function to set the temp, warm up your seats, steering wheel, they’re all digital right?
and who the heck ever come up with the “oh let’s shut off the engine as soon as a door is opened” ?! Like, I already started the truck, walk up, open up the door and bam! Engine shut off! Lol who in the right mind thought that’d be okay?

Had a buddy with a Chevy HHR (mini hatchback crossover) around 2010. With its remote start, it heated automatically if it was cold and cooled automatically if it was hot. Amazing we’re still where we are today without basic simple features like that.

I havent tested my Tundra as it lives in a heated garage, but in every other toyota I have ever owned, you have to be IN THE SEAT for the heat to activate. It wont heat an empty seat.

In saying that its warm in under 2 minutes.

Everything about the Tundra's remote start is lacking of any forethought whatsoever. Maybe someone at Toyota should have taken 10 seconds to think about why someone would want to use remote start in the first place. On my F150, if it was below a set temp, the heat, driver’s seat buttwarmer, and the heated steering wheel would come on. If it was above a set temp, the AC and vented seat would come on. And the Ford engineers knew that if you used remote start, you probably were going to drive the truck when you finally got in, so it didn’t turn the truck off when you unlocked the door just so that you could start it back up again. I guess maybe we won’t be so pissed off when the remote start free trial subscription ends since the feature is pretty damn worthless.

And why should anyone have to even think when they get out of their truck to turn on the heat or AC so that they next day when they remote start their truck that the HVAC system will be set appropriately the next day. Geez…this truck has more compute power than the space shuttle, and Toyota engineers can’t program that? Most 12 year olds can write a program for their phone that can do this.

I actually like the way the HVAC works with remote start. Easy enough to leave the controls where they need to be, and I am not such a delicate flower that I need my truck all heated up or cooled down to a specific temp. All I need is for it to be starting to blow warm or cool and that makes it plenty comfortable as I get rolling. No need for overcomplicated programming, IMO. I do wish the truck would not turn off when the doors unlock, however.

Got home last night, parked in the lower drive, and immediately headed out with my wife to meet the kids for dinner in the Y. Got home and realized I did not Manually set the truck up to have the heated steering wheel and seats to come on for the next morning. Went down started my new 24 Tundra turned the heated steering wheel on (this is a dumb mechanical latching switch), set the driver seat to low heat, and turned the AC auto to off. With all that effort I can report that it worked this morning when I remote started. I simply can't believe this is not an automatic feature like my other "modern" vehicles.

Agreed. If the truck is starting to blow warm air (or cold in the summer), I'm happy. My steering wheel starts to get warm before I get the the end of my street which is pretty quick, so no biggie if I forget to turn on the switch the day before. Same with the seats.

As for the remote start, I too let out a big WTF the first time the engine shut off when I unlocked the door. Never expected that one. BUT, I don't see it as worthless or terribly inconvenient as some say. The only "inconvenient" thing about it is I have to press the start button once I get in the truck, no big deal. Life's too short to get bent out of shape over some of this stuff (my humble opinion).

Hey, I’m not some pampered diva that needs to have my truck do everything for me so that I don’t have to push a button on my own. And I’m no “delicate flower” either. But my wife likes it when we walk out to the truck on a 20 degree morning and it’s already warmed up for her. This is a $65k, highly computerized machine. Why can’t we expect the thing to take advantage of the automation that’s already built in? It’s just simple programming. I just think that for that much money, it should be a bit “smarter” and more user friendly than the controls on my ‘64 Ford Fairlane. And this is nothing new or revolutionary…it worked perfectly just like this on my 2018 F150. And the truck turning off when I unlock the door just so that I can start it again is plain and simply a brain fart on Toyota’s part.

FYI, the remote start with the FOB works without the subscription. I never activated any of the subscription services, even for the free trial, and my FOB remote start works fine, until I open the door, of course.

I’m still within the free trial time, but I’ve read people saying both ways…it still works a year later, or it eventually stopped. But if the cab isn’t going to heat or cool automatically when I remote start it, and I’m going to have to restart it anyway, I’m not sure what the whole point of having it is.

In the winter it will heat the water in the block so when you do get in to drive it is blowing warm immediatly. Thats about it
