So A/C condenser busted due to something hitting it. Dealership wants ~$2400 to replace. Apparently Tundras with towing package require a condenser made of gold. Dealership wants $1500 just for the condenser.

I did some searching online. I found the part for ~$900 from a Toyota dealership online. How easy is it to replace the part? I know nothing about A/C systems, so would have to take it somewhere to have it recharged.

Another question....anyone used an aftermarket condenser with success that costs less?

You are also going to need a receiver/drier. Anytime you crack the system or have a leak, it needs to be replaced.

First of all go to Denso website and see if its available from them. They are Toyota OEM supplier and I have 100% confident in their parts. Most time dryer incorporated into new condesor so its all one piece. Very easy to do but you must do it right. Pull vacuum add amount of oil you took out blah blah blah..

When I buy a vehicle, first thing I normally do is pull of the grill and add 1/4" hardware cloth behind it to keep the condenser clean and protected. That is one reason I bought a trail edition, the grill has smaller openings, still has hardware cloth too. Very few insects on my condenser keeps the airflow good even at idle. Cheap mod and will save you some money.

Subbed for a later report with more info

I am in the middle of replacing my wife’s sequoia AC condenser along with some other work. The radiator will need to have the mounting bolts taken off. I chose to remove my radiator entirely and replace it due to mileage/age.

You can look around for condenser. I bought a TYC condenser off Amazon which was packaged properly, and arrived with no damage for about $110.

strangely, denso’s website doesn’t list anything for AC condensers for a 2017 Tundra.

So after much google searching, I’m trying to understand how Toyota can charge that much for the condenser? I can’t find an aftermarket condenser more than $200!!

Take a look under your hood for a sticker that states your AC Freon type and your capacity.

Hopefully you still have an R-134a system and not the new fancy 1234yzf or whatever it’s called it’s the new expensive stuff

If you have an auto parts store near you, many will rent out A/C gauge sets as well as a vacuum pump. Don’t know about each chain, but I do know O’Riley’s Auto Parts does this.

Basically, you put a deposit down, and as long as you return your rental gear within the specified time period, they refund your full deposit.

So, if you’re handy with tools, you could probably watch a few YouTube videos on it and do it yourself without having to invest a huge amount in specialized tools.
