    Good Morning everyone,

Hoping for a little guidance on this one. This is specifically related to the key "cut" and not the G-Key Transponder aftermarket fob Master/Valet coding.

The dealership sold me my truck with only the valet key. And the valet key was extremely worn down. It only works in the ignition and only unlocks the driver door, it cannot lock the door (obviously wont work in the tailgate or glovebox).

Now the problem I have is we had a duplicate made that will not unlock the driver door at all, but will still work in the ignition. The original Valet is just to worn to accurately make a duplicate.

The dealership gave me a credit to a locksmith ($125) wont cover a new key, but its something.

Will the locksmith be able to take that old worn key and make a new working "Master Key" cut that will work on all locks? Is a new key "Cut" orderable from Toyota? I'm aware of the semi-pseudo nightmare that can occur with the anti-theft and programming transponders, but my biggest hurdle right now is to try and get an original master key cut to use on all locks.

    Thanks for any input.

I thought dealers had the ability to provide a code number to give the ability for some locksmiths to cut a key.

I think only a locksmith can answer your questions. I was use to having 3 working keys when I owned Tacomas. I ordered a Toyota key to make a 3rd when I bought the Tundra. I had my local hardware store cut it. It didn't work anywhere so I did not bother programming. If a dealer cannot provide at least 2 keys I walk. I bought my ex a used Jeep. The dealer said the previous owner was supposed to drop off the second key and FOB. I made them sign something stating that if they did not they would have one made. If a locksmith cannot get it done you will need to provide proof of ownership and get the key code from Toyota.

I took my wife's Armada into Nissan a while back for an oil change. They accidentally locked the keys inside the car. The service manager was able to provide the VIN to the parts guy and he was able to look it up and cut a new master key on the spot. I'm guessing Toyota would be able to do the same.

ON this note. Are there after market options for a new key and FOB?
My dealer just quoted me $30 key, $110 Fob, $70 to program. Yikes, what a scam.

Ace Hardware in my town cuts and programs keys. Auto Zone has FOBS but Ace might also have them. Also try a locksmith.
