I have a stock 2020 Tundra Platinum. The very tip of the threaded portion of a tire valve stem is damaged and believe it or not I can't add air to the tire without wrapping the stem in plumbers tape and using a high-pressure air source. I'm about to buy new tires anyway so my question is can the valve stems be replaced individually while keeping the original TPMS or does the entire TMPS have to be replaced?

I’m pretty sure the TPMS is part of the valve stem. How did they get stripped? Have you tried going to Toyota to see if they will warranty them? Some dealers are nice and will work with you.

I'm an idiot who placed metal covers on the valve stems that then rusted and were seized onto the valve stem. Tire pressure was low when it got cold and I was away on a trip so I didn't have all my tools and the only thing my brother had was a Dremel so I cut it off. The surgery was mostly successful but I ended up putting the tiny nick in the very end of the valve stem. Now it doesn't seal (it actually just lets air out when you place the chuck) when you add air unless you wrap it in plumber's tape to fill in the nick.

oh man , sorry to hear that. I do have metal covers on mine also. I better change them back to the plastic, so I don’t run to this issue.
Hopefully you can go to Toyota and they can help you out like what @timsp8 said.

You can replace the stem without replacing the sensor.

thanks, I was also planning on spraying some WD40, grease probably be better. It’s starting to get cold over here , Another month it’s going to start snowing, I really don’t need them to seize.

Same thing happened to me. Metal caps. The stock valve stems and tpms were one piece on mine. Never had an issue in AZ but in VA if there’s a hint if snow/ice they brine the roads. I think that’s what corroded mine. The metal caps fused to the stems. I managed to save 2 by spraying penetrating oil over several days. The other 2 were unsavable and broke when getting caps off. Plastic only from now on.

Did you have to replace the entire TPMS on the broken stems?
