I'm zeroing in on the Real Truck - Retrax Pro XR bed cover; but having a hard time spending $2300 bones on one. I like the Pro (aluminum) XR (T-Slot for bed racks) model, not sure many competitors do the same.

Does anyone know if Real Truck ever puts these covers on sale (Black Friday / Cyber Monday); or do I need to just accept the pricing here?

Damn are they that much now?

I remember when I bought mine I called Real Truck, etrailer, teanneaucover.com, rackattack and just about all of them gave me a price less than what I was seeing online. You should call direct to all retailers and ask for their best price.

Hit up @memario1214 and see what his cost to your door would be and compare it that way. I bet he can save you a bit compared to the competition and he is great to work with and support.

The options are limited if you are wanting retractable and wanting the ability to have the t-slots for a bed rack. And if you find other options, they are in the same price point.

That's why I bought the Retrax to replace my bakflip. I liked the options and the known quality. I've had mine just over 2 years and love it.

You're not going to see massive sales on them, but we definitely help out the forum folks when we can. Shoot me a message with your bed length and where you live. I'll get you a number!

Thanks @RobertD for the tag! :fistbump:

I ended up going with TonneauCovered.com, its really a weird process buying these RetraxPro bed covers. You have to negotiate directly to get any discounting. I really hope the quality is fantastic with as much as these covers cost. Guess I'll let you know in a few years.

Make sure you immediately open up the two boxes and inspect all the parts when it arrives. I received a pro xr a few weeks ago and the main canister end plate was cracked, the front plate against the cab was bent, and one of the bed rails was bent. Realtruck swapped it out once I sent them photos of the damage without too much fuss. The second one was fine.

This is my second pro xr and the quality of the new one is nicer than my other (which I still have on a different vehicle). Better drain tubes and weather stripping/seals. The little retrax stickers all fell off after a week in NC sun, just like my other cover, though. Oh, and one big difference. The drain hose barbs installed differently than my first cover. The instructions and my older cover had you insert the barbs and twist to lock. My new cover you simply press them into place, although it took a firm push to overcome the rubber sealing washer.

Don’t expect it to be completely waterproof, either. It’s pretty good at keeping water out but you will have a little trickle here or there depending on how you park and where the water pools.

I've heard this....................I'm buying more for security than weather protection.

Cover is installed and I'm happy overall with it. Only three cons I've encountered so far are:

    1) The bed rail adjustment screws for making sure the cover opens / closes properly are made of cheap plastic. For a cover this expensive I'd expect aluminum or steel adjustment screws. Because of this the allen tool head of these screws strip out easily.
    2) The cover only actually locks in either the fully opened or the fully closed positions. All the in between positions the cover lock only pinches on the rail, and under normal driving still moves because it is only pinch locked vs pin locked into holes.
    3) The installation clamps that come with the cover to mount the cover to the factory bed rails are NOT rated for 500 LBs. You have to purchase the 500 Lb clamps separately.

This is for the RetraxPro XR ordered via TonneauCovered.com

You need to loosen the rail clamps before you adjust the nylon spacer screws. Then they won’t strip the Allen heads as there won’t be any tension.

You can adjust the tension on the latch. Mine have never moved while partially open.

Not sure what you mean by different clamps. The pro xr version should come with ones with adjustable bumpers to support racks installed in the T slot rails. Not certain about the tundra, but both my frontier and f250 covers came with the correct clamps.

Of Course, you need to loosen rail clamps first to adjust..................Mine still stripped; Screws are plastic while the rails they are installed in are aluminum, steel or aluminum set screws would be better. I just hammered in larger allen tool heads to finish and luckily that worked. I'm sure it's a cost saving measure for Real Trucks, but I'd expect better quality for such an expensive cover.

I'll look closer for a tension adjustment for the locks, that makes sense...............maybe I missed it but no mention of that in install instructions.

My RetraxPro XR came with rail clamps that were not rated for 500 Lb load, I have to order different rail clamps if I want 500 Lb rating for my TSlot accessories (Bed Rack, Roof Tent, etc......). For a cover this expensive...............I'd expect the clamps with max load rating to be included.

Can you show the clamps you did receive, and the others you ordered separately?

Real Truck just had this marked down $500 for Prime Days. Picked one up, and just installed it this past weekend. As far as other go, I just saw tat ERG makes a similar one with a smaller canister...I think a 7" canister vs. the Retrax 12".

Looks like the clamps that came with my cover are for MX series covers vs XR series covers.

I would not have noticed if it had not been called out in the install instructions.

seems like a quality control issue from Real Trucks.

Yeah, that’s definitely weird. Both of my pro xr covers came with the upgraded clamps.
