Wanted to give my $20 stock air box mod a quick review. I installed mine to the right of passenger headlight using some leftover HD plumbing supplies and 3" platic pipe to front right of factory airbox.

    Pros:
    - on highway iat drop faster than with stock airbox.
    - any type of significant acceleration , you can tell by logs its acting as a cold air system
    - system can be bypassed with 3" pvs cap
    - per dating logging maf/ logging shows reduced tps input needed compared to factory logging data
    - system has shown to be water tight as long as your checking clamps frequently ( i have two rubber cupplers to ensure no hot air or water sneaks by)
    Cons:
    - must be cognizent to install cap during heavy precip
    - at idle or low speeds it does suck hot air from radiator area, fan kicking warm air around. But ive only seen iat get super hot (125-135f*) please not i have seen as high as 140* w stock airbox sitting in traffic on blacktop.
    - i would not want to plow the front end into mudhole w this mod.

Some data: * look at green ( veh speed) and yellow (IAT Per MAF)
You can see when i boot it how it sucks in ambient air temps, highway driving, steady state driving provides enough positive outside air to keep AIT at ambient. From prevoius logs the fender *stock location works well but does get heat soaked. This mod has pro's and cons. But per but dyno, feels slightly less restrictive and id say enough to notice difference in cooler temps. I also picked up about 1mpg. Now , forgetting to seal this off could quickly negate any positives. And im undecided if I will swap out for stock again. Not sure if this is useful. I will contine to log and gathet additional data.

So you cut a hole and added pvc couplings? Pics of the build process?

Am I reading the charts right and only seeing ∆ 3-4 degree (at most) in the incoming air temp?

Correct. Does not make a drastic difference.
@FishNinja i can add some pics to thread. Basically consists of old 4" plastic aftermarket intake pipe , couplings, clamps.., and pvc cap with some rubber insulation pinched around airbox/aftermarket intake pipe for good seal. Ive been checking , so far nothing is brittle, filter clean. Had some free time a few months ago....ah those were the days.
