This journey started last year when I initially put rock lights on my truck. I have always wanted them to come on when I open the door, turn on the headlights, with the key fob, and be able to turn them on whenever I want. Through much research and trial and error, I was able to accomplish this. I installed 2 rock lights in each fender well and I attached a 50ish inch led strip to the frame under the cab so it shoots down and out. This gave it a more uniform look and didn't have any hotspots on the ground.

This youtube video was the main help, I just modified a few things for the things I wanted to do.

These trucks have a ground switch system on the lights. The positive wires on the dome/cargo/footwell light have a constant 12V power. As you open the door, the negative wire will ground out and complete the circuit, turning on the light.

sorry this is a rough diagram, it is the best way I could understand it before the trial period on the truck

    - The red wire are positive wires, which carry a charge
    - the blue are negative/ground wires

    wiring details
    Rock lights
    - The positive wire is attached directly to the vehicles battery with an inline fuse.
    - The negative/ground wire is run into the vehicle and attached to a 2 pin on/off switch
(This allows me to be able to turn them completely off)

The Relay (was able to tuck up very neatly under the drivers side kick panel)
    - Pin 85 & 87 are wired a ground inside the cab.
    - Pin 30 goes to Rock light on/off switch
    - Pin 86 goes to the Rock light on/off/on switch
    - Pin 87a goes the tan(ground) wire of the light that is in the footwell (I used Posi-taps)

    The on/off/on switch
    - position one gets constant power tapped from the positive (blue) wire on the existing floor lights
    - the middle position only lets the lights come on with the doors or fob
    - position 2 gets power from the dash light fuse. you will need a fuse tap
This switch lets you choose to
    1. have the rock lights come on with the headlights
    2. have the rock lights come on with constant power.
(I don't know if it will time out, I haven't tested that)
    3. Only have the rock lights come on with the doors and the key fob

**If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I will try to respond somewhat quickly**

below are some pictures of the switches, wiring, and the relays. (I also have led floor lights that come on with the doors and headlights. So there are pictures of 2 relays, but for the rock lights, you would only need 1)
    - I have switches ordered to make that situation cleaner, but they have not come in yet. I was eager to finish it and would worry about making the switches look clean later.

If anyone decides to attempt this, please post a pic or video. I would love to see your rigs in action.
