So a guy at work is telling me I need to get rock light for my truck. I don't see the point. Seems like lights just for the sake of lights.

Does anyone run them? If so, why?

    Any benefits? Any downside?

They're the most worthless lights I've put on my truck. They might be good for changing a flat in the dark though.

I think they would cool for illuminating sliders or steps for people to get in and out in the dark or changing a tire. I guess you can do puddle lights for that purpose too. I dont do much night wheeling so it may be different for others.

Those look mostly for show as previously mentioned, or to get a cops attention lol. I think a headlamp would work better than trying to snake and run all those wires from all over the truck.

Warren, they’re also called rock “crawling” lights, not go through the desert and by the way can you look under my truck while I’m doing 60 mph lights
I have them on too and I’ve had them on during night trail rides but didn’t “need” them - yet. They have come in handy during trail repairs though.

I used to have mixed feeling about head lamps. Then I got a pair for christmas a few years ago.... I use them all the time.

You wouldnt think about it but its one of those things that has a night and day difference between a cheap one and and expensive one. The fit and comfort is just as important if not more so than the actual light output in my opinion.

I have 2 ea side for puddle lights and really like them. They're tied into the bed lights and come on when the doors open. I used these and they've been great:

Simple. Getting the wire into the door sill area is the toughest part but there are rubber grommets on the underside that negate the need for drilling IIRC. It's just a matter of fishing wire into the sill area.

Me too but this is pretty painless as far as wire fishing goes. It's only about 5-6" of fishing. You're grabbing power from the wire in the sill area and I used the ground that's behind the foot well cover so no passing through the firewall.
I've had those lights installed for several years now and they get pelted by rocks from the front wheels I'm sure but have never failed.

    KC rock lights.
I plan on installing some. They are great at night when camping or wheeling in desert where it's pitch black.

My wife is seeing impaired and we have the Go Rhino running boards. The underneath light that comes on when you open the doors lets her see her next step onto the running boards easily.

I have used rock lights for the sole purpose of assisting the spotters visibility at night in low light conditions so they can take a stance and direct you with good visibility. Much easier than multiple people with flashlights running around trying to advise when they cannot see the big picture, only what is in the optic point of their flashlight.

I also have have them on while driving Offroad at night because you have a bubble of light all around to assist with visibility. Oh, it looks kewl there is that

I plan to get a set, wire them as puddle lights/running board lighting.

I changed my courtesy lights over to LED rock lights. Mostly because everything I drop roll up under the center.
That being said, if you wheel at night, they really help your spotter see everything.

I recommend Lux lighting systems rock lights. Mainly because they are no drill and very durable. I use one of their kits for under hood lights, not rock lights.

I installed them just for show/looks. I think I’ve used them a couple of times on my back road, but they’re illegal to run on road here in VA. BBD567F1-203B-446E-AD85-32F34B556DE2.jpg
