Hello, long time reader first time poster. Took my Rock Warrior in for service at 80050 Miles and they were more than happy to point out my oil leak. I explain to them that they have been the only people that have been servicing my vehicle since I purchased it how could this oil leak possibly go unnoticed you are the only ones that have changed the oil in my vehicle. It lives in a clean garage and never shows sign of any leaks. I check my oil couple times a month have never added oil. But Toyota knows it drips onto the manifold and the owner will never see it. They started at $2,700 now they are giving me a deal at $2,100 I told them to pound sand. Fortunately I have Grease Monkey Buddies. Took two of us 9 hours to replace valve cover gaskets, thermostat , serpentine belt , belt tensioner, water pump.(Water pump was on last leg, surprisingly wasn't dropping it's water yet ) between the Chilton book and this website it wasn't that difficult. Cam Tower seals sure sounds expensive. It's just a valve cover gasket. This is my third new Toyota pickup I have purchased. The first two were Tacomas, great trucks, kept them servced only at Toyota. Not one problem with either. Trade in at 150 k and go again. Was planning the same for this Tundra but if I'm going to have to turn wrenches on my rig at 80 k will be purchasing different brand next time....raptor time.....

Welcome from CO. Dealer work is expensive, but at times it can be a piece of mind. Where was it leaking from? I havent heard of any 2nd gen Tundras with the cam tower oil leak- usually just 3rd gen which is a hit and miss per vehicle.

Welcome. So when you were wrenching, did you find the oil leak?

Not to be an ehh-hole, but you had an under $3k repair bill and you are about to jump ship to ford.....buy the longest extended warranty available.

So you drove 380,000 miles with Toyotas and had $2100 in repair costs and you want to jump ship to Ford? You'll beat that in the first month out of warranty on a Ford.

Passenger side ,extended warranty does no good unless YOU find the problem before end of warranty

There are Gen2 with Cam Tower leaks. Mine has been leaking since 45k but dealer wouldn't fix it. Know of other Gen2's with the same issue - one was fixed, leaked again and fixed again.

well now that it is fixed you should be good. I have a gen 2 and the dealer fixed it under warranty. I had both sides done.

Dealerships aren't your babysitter, they are a money making business and its up to you to ensure your truck is in tip top condition. Having that warranty holds them liable to fix your truck IF you find something wrong. Despite you paying for their maintenance and "inspections", businesses will cut corners wherever they can.

Knew this was gonna be  worthy thread when I saw the OP username.

Sounds like your gripe should be with the dealership not the brand.

To follow up a little here. I had a leaking valve cover. Have only driven it for 50 miles since. No oil leaks. Could possibly still have cam tower seal problem if any oil is noticed just below valve cover....creeper, flashlight,mirror....no problem. I am diligent now

You should be able to see the cam tower leak from under the front fenders .. if it’s leaking
