Roof Rack Debate

Currently got a 2017 Crewmax, looking for a roof rack. I like the victory 4x4 rack and the kc hilites rack still deciding if I want a light bar or not up there. What are you guys running? I also see @Coachbuilder1 has a rack coming soon. Anyone else have info on that one any eta? Thanks

There's something, Spider rack I think, no drilling required. That'd be my first choice. Victory lines up perfectly for you to drill into your air bags. There's a thread about it here somewhere.

 

I plan on running a prinsu for my roof rack.

 

What are you planning on putting up there? Do you want permanent or removable?

 

I have an UpTopOverland rack on my cap but they make them for the cab too...Seems like these Victory and Prinsu are what you hear a lot about. I am very happy with mine. I have 6 Baja Design lights on mine...well engineered not a lot of exposed wires and built like a tank. Keep in mind once you go over the cab you are going to be drilling into the roof.

 

I wish the Tundra came with a roof rack like the Tacoma did.

 

I plan on running some roam boxes up front, biggest issue is I have a very large rtt, and I want it hang over the rack over the cab. I don’t want it hanging out past the tailgate.

 

Drilling into the cab doesn’t worry me too much, it’s going to be a permanent install

 

Yeah I saw that thread about the guy drilling into his airbags. Seemed to be split on manufacturer error or install error. I’m going with install error

 

That Coachbuilder rack was supposed to come out in 2016.
I think he’s scrapped the plan.

 

I just bought a Prinsu top rack. I'm putting a Roam 83L on one side. Prinsu has a lot of cool mounting and assembly options. I ordered an extra crossbar and set of feet this morning.

 

Could you let me know how the install goes and maybe some pics? Would really appreciate it

I'm very happy with my Uptop Overland Cab & Canopy racks.

 

Does your Uptop Overland roof rack still allow for decent satellite radio reception? The Uptop rack looks to have the least amount of top coverage over the antenna but I haven't seen any close up shots.

 

I don't use satellite radio so I couldn't say for sure. I only tuned in a few times when I had the trial but that was before getting the cab rack.
The construction is almost completely aluminum -sides included, so I wouldn't think it would interfere too much. According to the limited research that I did a while ago, all transmission go through the shark fin antenna on a 2020. I probably could have positioned the rack to accommodate the shark fin but, at the moment, I don't have a rear bar on my rack because it would interfere with the shark fin. I plan on making a shark fin relocation mount.
I could get you a picture but is there a specific location you need a picture of?

 

I have this Spider no drill roof rack and it is absolutely amazing. Packed it up pretty well on our last camping trip without any issues. The owner is legit and walks you through every step of the install.

 

Ah, I didn't realize the satellite radio went through the shark fin on 2020's. The 2019's have the small antenna on the roof near the windshield on the passenger side right where the deflector is on most roof racks. Since the Uptop one juts out further I figured it wouldn't cover the antenna as much.
