I do a lot of sitting in my truck at a jobsite for work, and when it's hot/cold out I run the AC/heat to stay comfortable.

I've noticed just sitting in Park the engine idle is a rough, it's more noticeable than my Chevy Colorado with 212,000 miles.

Is that normal? Should I not be doing that with this truck because it has turbos?

Mine is very very smooth when Idling. Only makes slight noise while waiting at some traffic lights, but that's probably direct injection doing its cleaning

Isn't it the port injection that keeps the valves clean?? The direct injection is noisy when it is in operation tho.

It is the port, the fuel sprayed on the valve keeps the carbon that the direct injection causes from building up.

So it is the Port Injectors causing the rough idle to keep the valves clean?

    No the direct does that.
Pay attention on a cold start first thing in the morning, the truck will be in direct injection mode and noisy, about 15-20 seconds later as the idle levels out and engine "smooths" out it changed over to port injection.

Can you try to get video of it and idle sound near the front wheel wells? So we can hear it.

Port injection causes idle to run little bit rough, for maybe 5 seconds or so when Idling, and this only happens every 10-15 min or so... Usually I can notice it when waiting on red lights and can see rpm slightly fluctuate. It's a very slightly engine sound difference

It's more of a vibration than a sound. I just took it to the dealership for a window trim issue and asked about the idling, he said it's normal and his Tacoma does it too. Idk, I haven't owned a Toyota in almost 10 years but I feel like a brand new vehicle shouldn't vibrate oddly just sitting still.

I notice when I’m at a light it idles at say 600 rpms and if I push the break harder the idel drop even lower to like 500 rpm that’s when I notice a little more roughness

Yes, I got this same slight vibration when waiting on the traffic lights. Occurs every 5-10min approximately and vibration lasts about 5 seconds...

Just by making educating guess, we all think that it has to be port injection. Car nut describes some of such symptoms for other Toyotas and supposedly it's normal. Nobody had dealer do anything about it yet in the past two years on this forum.

These trucks seem to like to be worked and when they are idling they don’t like it. I agree they are not the smoothest idlers. They sure run nice when under load.

I've had a hemi prior for ten years, and that was NOT a smooth idler! Lots of knocks, ticks, marble rolling around, and the fun part that it varies on a monthly basis. This Tundra engine is amazingly smooth idler

Doesn't it sound like a Camry or a Lexus? So quiet... It's amazing that it's actually a truck!

It's a shame that we got this recall thing now...

I rented a 3.5 Ecoboost F150 and was surprised how rough it idled too, per owners comments its a v6 side effect since it’s not balanced/offset. Would imagine the Toyota 3.4 is similar. My FJ and 4Runner though were not as rough as that F150 so dunno.

When your in park is the truck on any incline?
Putting any stress on the parking claw will transmit alot of feed back to the cab. Use the parking brake let of foot brake then put into park.

Just a guess here. The 2018 is my 1st Tundra. Even with the V-8 I do notice a slight vibration when the AC compressor engages while idling at stops. I live in Florida so the AC gets run quite a bit.

I haven't researched the function but when I put it in MAX AC which I assume keeps the compressor on, I don't notice it. When not in MAX I can feel it when the compressor turns on and off.

No it was about as flat as it could have been when I noticed the vibration.
