Soon we are going to be getting a new camper shell. Would like to route an AC duct inside the camper to keep cool for when we have dogs in the back. Because of the tundra rear drop down window, not sure if a boot between truck cab and camper would work. Has anyone had any success getting AC from cab to camper?

    thanks

I've heard of instead of running a boot people using a mountain bike tube instead . Nothing to add other than that but interested to see what you figure out

If you want to go totally Gucci, get a sequoia rear AC unit and plumbing/wiring from a wrecked one. Install it in the bed. You’ll have to build an enclosure.

That is exactly what I was thinking about. As for just opening the windows that will obviously work when the temps are moderate but sometimes we are in desert areas where temps can be well over 100deg F.

I made a boot my welding together two fat tire inner tubes and filling them with slime, it leaks slowly but i keep a pump in the bed. I got fans that attach to the headrests and put them in the rear seat head rest and face them into the bed. Unfortunately its really not enough to keep it that cool and usually just keep the camper shell windows open which I took the screens out of so my dogs can hang their heads out and I just park in the shade if I take them with me some where.

I mean even if you could get air back there, in extreme heat it wouldn't help much due to zero insulation of the bed and camper. Just ride the pups in the cab when it's that hot

Forgot to add that I put a remote thermometer in the bed also and keep the display on the dash so I know the temp back there. A splashless water bowl is a great addition too, the ones with a snap on lid and a small hole in the middle for drinking

Another vote for letting the dogs ride in the back seat, unless you already have kids back there or something.

Sometimes it’s just not a good idea to bring the dog along. We leave our GS at home when the weather isn’t compatible for his survival.

With some of the comments in this thread I wonder if anyone else grew up in the backseat of a car without air conditioning and vinyl seats lol

This is what I grew up riding in, in southern MS in the 90s. It was hot as balls. Got my first vehicle with ac in 2015 :bananadead:20190414_153710.jpg

My dogs have never been in the cab. Except when my dopey hound decided to crawl through on a long road trip once.

My kids learned a little lesson the other day about how hot it can get inside an enclosed cab. We stopped to wash the truck at a car wash. 13 minutes and they jumped out because they couldn’t take it anymore. They even cracked the door open when I was on the other side of the truck washing it.
