There are some rumors that the new tundra will be introduced in the year 2022. It is said that it will be a completely new truck with class leading MPG (maybe diesel? Hybrid?).

How would this affect the resale of our trucks? Do you guys think the introduction of these alternative fuel trucks will cause the regular 5.7 trucks to go down in value? Or with the introduction of new technology, there are always complications. With that being said, if the new engines are gimmicky do you think that will cause our trucks to have an even better resale value?

Just wanted to see what the general thoughts are out there. 5FFF9163-13FA-421B-93EB-64D96A3573F2.jpg

I plan to drive mine a minimum of 10 years and I assume 8 cylinder trucks will be a thing of the past and will be highly desirable with the new hipster/retro crowd.

    so....

    42. final answer.

When I was on the Toyota factory for in san antonio, I was told the would not be a diesel motor because of the weight of the Tundra... maybe turbo tho

I hope it drops the price of ‘em like a rock. My ‘08 will be past it’s prime in another decade and I’ll want another. :D

But, it wouldn’t surprise me if the new models start at $60K Canadian, so the price of used ones will inflate at a similar rate.

So really I think Chris said it best.

Maybe, just Maybe, Toyota will offer multiple engine options. Im not a fan of all these turbo versions the manufacturers are releasing, while dropping v8s and v6s from cars and trucks. More heat, more rotating assemblies, higher octane requirements, more chances for component failure. Im currently hunting a 2016-2017 Accord Coupe v6 Manual (rare ), as they have dropped the coupe, manual AND the v6 in 2018. Entirely possible Toyota will drop the v8, and its a shame, Toyota makes a great v8 for he Lexus and trucks (MPGs aside).

That's a really good question. I was actually thinking along the similar lines today at work....with the new Supra coming out - what will that do to the older 1994-1997 Supra car values? I can't believe how high they are it's crazy.

I'm 99.3% sure I have seen one in testing driving around my area...... and it was a diesel. It was 100% a full size Toyota truck.

Yeah dude they are really high. But I wouldn’t mind a new Supra lol.

Idk how the demand would be affected. We can compare similar models like the F150, but the f150 changes almost every year while the tundra has stayed the same for the Pat few years so the trend is a little different.

Before I bought my tundra I was looking at an ecoboost engine. My issue with that was as u stated “component failure”. My wife drives a fusion with an ecoboost engine and it is been a great car, regardless i didn’t want to trust it in my truck which we use for longer trips.

Hmm that’s interesting, I’m sure the new trucks will cost a lot more creating a higher demand for used ones. Very good point

I'm not paying $10k more for a hybrid, that's just crazy.

For, $10k plus the depreciation value I'm sure I can buy a lot of fuel

If I was going to make an educated guess here I would say that the V8 option will stay have more power with an 8 speed tranny or higher speed but will not be the top dog. The V8 would probably have around 420 hp and 440 torque. The top dog will probably be a Hybrid V8 engine of some sort pushing out 450ish hp and around 480ish torque and getting about 26 mpgs on the highway. The third option could also be a twin turbo V6.

IIRC the 1998 Supras weren't even sold in Cali because of emissions

I'll GLADLY take one, but not for the 80K they are going for.. jebus!

There might be a few complications but I don’t think there will be that much to be honest. The ‘new’ technology has already been around and tested first with the Lexus. Either the v6 twin turbo, or the hybrid, or the 5.0 v8 (467-472 hp) have been around in the Lexus linenup for the Ls, Rcf, and gsf. So the power train will be very smooth. I think the new hybrid technology will be a bigger version of the new rav4. That car has increased its mpg a lot. The next generation landcruiser will have the v6 twin turbo so since the tundra shares a similar engine it will probably carry it. Whatever Toyota/Lexus makes I’m sure it will be good. There have been two second generation tundra model in 2007 that have over 1 million miles so I’m sure it be fine.

For me I’m just old fashioned so I’ll probably just keep my dinosaur 5.7 v8 forever. It has treated me well so far along with my 2016 Lexus LX570 which also has the 5.7 v8 (even smoother). Has all the tech and gizmos I need. If I can add Apple car play it be a bonus.

They’ve been showing videos of a 2020 test mule lately. Not sure if it’s a complete 4th gen redesign or not but is rumored to have interior infotainment changes/upgrades and push button start, finally.
