I have a 2018 1794 (20 inch wheels) and am in need of new tires. I bought the truck used and it appears to have a lift or leveling kit installed, running 285/55/r20 BFGR AT2s. After some research it looks like a 1.5 inch lift, but attached is a picture of the front suspension. Should I stick with the same size or go bigger? I really don’t want to trim or chop anything.

Thanks in advance…tires and suspension aren’t my forte.

Those are off of a 2015-2017 TRD Pro, so yes you are running about a 2” lift up front. You should be able to size up but then you’re going to run into rubbing on plastics (mud flaps, front bumper, etc) that might need to be cut or heat gunned out of the way. You likely won’t want to go wider, 295/60 or whatever the 20” wheel takes, unless you want to run wheel spacers as well.

    OEM was a 275/55-20. That’s a 32” tire, a bit over 10” wide.

if you want to stay in that width range but move to a 33” tire, 275/60-20 is a common tire. You’ll have lots of options.

If you’re not planning to tow heavy (for a 1/2 ton) or haul full loads every day, I’d recommend an LT tire in a Load Range C.

In my opinion, a 295/60-20 wouldn’t be a great choice for a fella that just wants a 33” tire. They’re a bit over 34” tall and nearly 12” wide if I remember correctly. Good tire size, but may necessitate some trimming…

The earlier posts nailed it on those shocks. There was no 2018 TRD Pro available, so those are earlier shocks. They’re quite an upgrade from what you had stock.

Cooper, Falken, Toyo, Nitto all make good tires. Find a deal and run it! There are certainly other good options as well.

Thanks for your input! The guy at the tire store recommended 285/65 r20s and thought they would fit after looking at the clearance himself. . I’m a little skeptical based on what you guys have said He says they’ll test fit and if the don’t work, make it right now problem. We shall see. Thanks again!

That’s damn near a 35” tire! Often referred to as a skinny 35.

    ~34.75” x 11.25”.

with what is effectively a 2” level, there is a high chance of some trimming being needed. It might fit, but good chance it’s gonna rub.

Good tire size though! It’s the same dimensions as the 285/75-18 tires that are going on my truck in a few months, but I’ve got what is listed as a 3” lift up front and 2” in the rear. In reality, it’s closer to 4” and 3”.

I'm running 275/65 R20 (34x11) on General Grabber APT LTs. Mine has Eibach shocks set to 1.25in lift on front and RAS on rear at lowest setting (around .75in rear "lift") and stock TSS/Tundra Edition 20in wheels. I had to remove the front mud flap and push the fender liner in some. Rear mud flaps were gone when I added fender flares. You should be able to fit this size tire without any additional mods with your 2in lift on your stock 20s. IMG_20230626_203249932_HDR.jpg

As an added note - many of the C range LT tires I've seen actually have a smaller load capacity than the factory P rated tires that came with the truck from the factory. But it depends on the tire size. So double check that the tires have at least a load rating of 114 or higher.

What about 295x60x20 with stock TSS rims and a 3/1 leveling lift kit? Anyone have any experience with that size or a good size similar that would work?

    Update…

Discount tire was pretty great about all this. They put the tires on and checked everything out. They gave me a guarantee that I could exchange the size if I wasn’t pleased (Costco refused to do this). I did have some rubbing on the ski plate but after some research I was able to quickly relieve that. I’m sure they may be rubbing under extreme circumstances, but day to day it doesn’t seem to happen at all. I included some before and after pics.

Thanks again for all your help,
    Drew

@rrosebr Glad everything worked out! What tire/size did you go with? Truck looks great!

@rrosebr do you have any pictures straight on to show what the stance looks like?

That looks sharp! If all you had to work on was the skid plate, consider yourself very lucky. That’s the easiest thing to massage out of the way.

The +60mm OEM wheels certainly help with fender clearances…
