Same price - non-ethanol all day long. Higher price for non-ethanol - depends on the pricepoint; i.e., 30 cents difference means ethanol gas will go in.

All dirt bikes, chain saws, generators etc - always non-ethanol/non-oxy

Definately pure 100% gas if at all possible. When the pump clicks off stop! Don't overfill. Add two cans of Berryman's chemtool B12 every 25k in a half tank and run it down before a refill.

Ethanol free all day every day if I could. The problem here is that in NY you can only get it in 91 octane. From a financial standpoint it’s not worth it. However I have used it in most my trucks whenever I got the opportunity. The motor just seems to run better and have more responsiveness.

Cost difference isn’t really worth it, especially since most newer cars are either flex fuel or designed to run with 10% ethanol mix. I do run a tank of no ethanol every once in a while, and if were more cost effective, I’d run it all the time.
Highly recommended in small engines every time though.

100 % 87 here all over the place. Cost diff, I dunno. Maybe about 18-25 cents.

In my locale, pure gas 87 is the same price as 91 with ethanol. I run the pure gas cause I "think" my Tundra and 4Runner run better on it. Haven't conducted any experiments to support this though :)

I didn’t realize there was that much of a price difference for 87 octane ethanol free…

That really doesn’t make sense to spend that kind of money if it’s a DD. My Tundra is the weekend family toy/house construction hauler. I would use it every tank if I had the opportunity. :anonymous:

By way of an example - I have a small 4-stroke power washer with a Honda motor. The float valve and cup are on the bottom of the carb. Using 10% ethanol, If I cut the engine off without draining the float valve, the emulsion tube and float valve will cake up with green gunk and render the engine un-startable in a matter of a couple months. Honda even knows this and recommends shutting off the gas line valve and running the float cup empty to kill the engine prior to storage. I'm glad the carb is $12 on Amazon, and easy to replace...

It might not affect a big engine to the same drastic degree, but it's going to add gunk.

An additional problem I have is that in order to get 100% gas, I have to go to a station adjacent to a lake (I'm in Starbucks-ridden suburbia). It's out of the way, and much more expensive.

Any ethanol in your gas will dissolve the plastic used in many small engine fuel lines. All vehicles made in the past couple of decades are made with parts that are compatible with it. That said, pure gas burns hotter and seems to give better performance. The bottom line is that 10-15% ethanol gas will not decrease the life of your truck, but if you want a little pep, pure gas may give it to you. I have never seen ethanol-free gas without a significant price premium.

Our ethanol free is about 90 octane and it’s usually close to premium fuel price, so around 40 cents over regular 87 per gallon give or take.

Around here ethanol free is only available in 87 octane. They use ethanol to boost octane in higher grades. I had a 1985 Mercury Black Max with milled heads on my boat. I had to run 93 octane with the high compression. When I ran ethanol free I had to had an octane booster.

91 non-ethanol fill up today...$3.999/gal vs the same in ethanol $3.499 ...I always choose the non-ethanol and get better fuel mileage on both my 4runner and my truck...my brain also tells me I'm producing more power - - - >

87 octane ethanol free locally. Currently 2.97/gal. Fuel with ethanol just went up again to about 2.80/gal. My truck actually gets a little better mileage on the ethanol free. When the prices are this close, I will run the ethanol free if I remember before I go to the other station. Still, at $3.00/gal, its a small fortune to fill up Big Blu!

Higher energy density with straight gas, so you should get more mpg and more power. $/mile though goes up, so mpg isn't the whole story.

I typically blend my fill-up here. 2.5 gallons of straight E85 with remaining gallons 90* Non-Ethanol to land at a higher octane.

I hope you don't do that when the pumps are busy. We have idiots around here that park at the pumps just to go in the store. They are saving maybe 20 steps. I let a dude have it one day when he did it. The manager stepped in to break it up.

I make 2 stops at 2 different stores when I fill up. I could give 2 shits what anyone thinks how I should spend my money at the pump as long as I'm not the dick parking at them for shade only.

I get frustrated at times with people that fart around before and after pumping gas. The station I go to went to 2 pumps in a lane. I prefer ones with single pumps.
