I’ve seen Plasti Dip discussed here quite a bit as the go to for easy painting. I have used it myself and do agree it is very easy to deal with. A couple of things that bugged me about it is A) The outcome is always a flat matte finish and B) the lack of matching color for Magnetic Grey. Yes, they do offer the Glossifier, however I do not like the results for I think it makes it look blotchy. Also the closest color they have to MGM is their Anthracite Grey which is still considerably lighter than MGM.

Someone locally mentioned to look at Rust-Oleum’s Peel Coat brand which is similar to Plasti Dip and replaces their earlier PlexiDip product. I stared to research it and found some pros and cons. The pros are that they offer many colors and have a “Graphite” color which is very close to MGM. Another pro is the finish of Peel-Coat is more of a sheen and does not look so flat. Cons include that it apparently is a thinner product and can be difficult to peel off if enough coats are not applied.

I ended up combining each and applied the first 5 base coats of Plati-Dop and finished it off with several coats of Graphite Peel-Coat. The result was a nice sheen finish that closely matches the Magnetic Grey.

    A couple of pointers:

    1) The Plasti-Dip cans have a nicer nozzle so use that nozzle on the Peel-Coat cans

    2) No experience here, but apparently the over spray of Peel-Coat on tires (if doing wheels) is very difficult to get off. So use with caution on wheels.

In my area, the only retailer that carries Plati-Dip is Lowes which is limited to a few colors. However, locally both Walmart and Autozone carries almost all the Peel Coat colors. I was able to try it out after a quick trip to Autozone.

Your mileage may vary but hope this helps.

I'm using vinyl as well. However, I had the grill painted black by a local paint shop, but wanted to try something different and color match the Toyota badge. Turned out really well.

I used that peel and coat stuff. Worked pretty well. Came out smoother than plasti dip. I like to switch from chrome to all black and back to chrome once in a while. It looks good if sprayed right. About 2k miles on it with no chipping or tears yet.
I used it on my bumper ends and my emblem. The insert is plasti dip. I didn't want it all to be glossy.

I used Anthracite Grey as the base coat because that is what I already had. I would think that a black basecoat would produce the same results.

Well played Mike... Should I keep going and just do the whole truck :) ? Wondering how many cans of spray that would take.
