I want to put an S&B Cold Air Intake in my truck. Is there a preference over the dry or oil filter? Or is it just a personal preference?

I'm in So. Jersey where the air doesn't have sand or dirt where I drive and I'm not off roading with it but I do know there is a good deal of pollen in the spring. This is my DD and i'm probably putting no more the 8k on it in a years time. I did read the dry filter could be changed every 10-15k which could give me almost 2 years use. I think I'm leaning towards the cotton cleanable though.

Some folks will say the oiled filters can clog up your maf sensor because excessive oil gets sucked through ect.. I've run K&N on most of my vehicles with the exception of a few "dry flow" intakes here and there.. Never had a problem with either.. So yeah really boils down to preference..

Before you buy the S&B check out the Stillen unit.

I thought the dry filter is cleanable as well. I have a Afe dry and I can clean it. Really I think they both filter about the same. It just comes down to preference. I could see where oil would be attractive thinking it would trap the dirt or pollen, but I doubt there’s a whole bunch of a difference. I’ve always used oil filters but I did over oil once and ruined and MAF in a different truck. I think I ruined it when I was cleaning it. This time I opted for dry because it’s that much easier. I have the stock intake and put a paper filter in when I go off road for better filtration, and the fact that I can just throw it out and put my good one back in when I’m home.

I did, out of my price range, but I did like the concept. Although with rain and snow it looks like there's more of a clear path to the filter with the additional duct to the grille
I looked at it that way but replacement filters are $45 plus. Good point about damaging the MAF sensor.

I opted for the oiled. S&B has videos on proper oiling process. Each filter they sell requires a specific amount of oil which can be accurately measured with their cleaning kits.

Oh- and if you ruin a MAF or damage a part S&B will cover the cost if warranty is questioned by the dealer, so long as you used the cleaning kit and recommended oil amount

Still seems to be a matter of opinion.
