Anyone had problems with the air injection system? Anyone installed the Hewitt bypass kit? All the issues I've read about are on the early gen trucks.

On a purely preventative basis I installed the Hewett bypass kit. I wasn't having any issues.

It was kinda a pain to install due to it being really hard to get my hands in the proper location to plug and unplug the connectors, but in the end it all went well.

I want to try and eliminate anything that might leave me dead in the water on a long trips to a remote area and this bypass kit was definitely a piece of that puzzle.

I have a 2010 Tundra, so one of the earlier gen trucks.

Thanks, I'm considering the same, but wondering if anyone has installed the kit or had issues on the newer trucks, mine is a 2021.

Funny I just came across this thread in search of the same thing but it seems no one in the forum has posted about putting one on their 2014+ truck yet. Did something change with the design of the SAIS in the GEN 2.5 maybe?

How difficult was the install? Seems the hardest part is the plates.

Overall it was easier than I expected. Separating the flanges to install the plates was a bit of a pain but not bad. One additional thing I did was cut off the load side terminals of the relay to make sure nothing in the system was getting energized. Pulling the relay or the fuse threw a code.

    Too many mods to come
Do they make a kit for the 17-21 I didnt see it. JK found it. And to confirm this is for the units in the fender well? Would love to delete and remove these for the issue and more clearance.

Secondary Air Injection System Bypass Kit
@Joe333x Thanks for recommending the Hewitt Tech Bypass Kit. The Secondary Air Injection System has been implemented on Tundras from 2005 all the way to current. Waiting to see if the new twin turbos still have the system but everything else at this time still has this failure prone system. We have Bypass Solutions for all of these models, the anything 2008 and newer we recommend the Gen 2 Bypass Kit. Below I have included a few recent post. Any questions do not hesitate to contact us.

I bought a Hewittech for my 2007 4.7 4Runner as a preemptive measure, and everything worked fine for about two years. Then the engine would randomly shutoff every few weeks, always under idle when stopping or turning (regardless of -30 degree cold in Wisconsin or 115 degree heat here in AZ). It would also throw the usual codes, mostly MAF and that other one. It kept happenning, even after switching out the MAF with a new Toyota one as well as a Napa unit. Reached out to HT and they replaced it for free, and everything was fine again for about a year, then the shennanigans started again.

Ended up unplugging the HT unit, but left it mounted under the hood as a last ditch option if the air pump fails. No problems now, and definitely not blaming HT as they're great people, it remains a mystery.
