Don't let a kid out smart you.
Since I've owned the truck the seat belts have always been super slack and can't retract without pulling it. I've heard its a common Toyota problem. I tried searching through the forum and I couldn't really find anything. Any suggestions for replacements or hacks to get the spring to work better?

    PHM Super Duper Money Saver:

    1) Clean Seat Belts really good with some soap and water or mild degreaser. No need to remove when cleaning. Just retract them out and get all the salts/dirt out of the fabric.

    2) Let dry.

    3) Spray/Mildly Soak Belts with PB Silicone with Teflon. Let dry as thats when the magic happens.

    4) Watch out you might lose an eye. Pa Snap!

You did thank me and thank you again. I’ve been Preaching it for about 2 years. Hopefully saving lots of people time and money. The key to the Silicone/Teflon is the slippage over the plastic loop and it happens best when its dry. A couple refreshings over the year helps. First time really needs a soaking.

$8 for the can. It also helps keep cloth seats clean.

I can attest PHM is right. This worked for me too. I've been slacking in my reapplication.

    Do PHM method. Works good.

Seat belt tensioners are hazmat to ship. Can't buy new.

If busted, junkyard? Might get lucky locally. Interchangeable part?

Man glad I found this thread I was wondering if there was a fix after pulling on those seat belts the last few months
Only complaint I’ve had about the truck.
Thanks to OP of this thread for asking and PHM for the fix.

Toyota would lose money if they did. I had mine replaced 3 times under my 100k extended warranty. That along with the serpentine belt replacement for squealing after 30k miles. There’s an aftermarket fix for that though.

I have a lazy seat belt as well, not retracting properly (driver side). I'm willing to try this out, but curious if the silicon comes off on clothes? Hard to imagine it doesn't?

Thanks! Btw, if someone is selling a driver belt in good shape please let me know :)

Haven't noticed any issues with lubricant coming off from mine. I pressure washed mine then sprayed with silicone lubricant. My driver seatbelt is like new now.

This is what we're talking about here?

I found a guy on youtube whose fix was to sand this guide wider, to allow the belt through easier. But I don't so much like that idea.
